We don't think you should cancel your next therapist appointment just yet, but the article does raise some interesting questions regarding the power of machines to create empathy in human beings.
It might not be the likes of Skynet of HAL that get us in the end. It might just be the DS. Personally, we can't wait for the arrival of our new Nintendo overlords.

Ummm, that might all be well and good, if anybody played the game longer than 2 weeks o_o
I quit playing after 4 days (though I will admit, it was a good four days of puppy-pettin). My brother quit after about 12, and I don't expect that a lot of people played longer than that.
