The Composing with Electroplankton series is like learning to read music for the first time. Well, not really, but it could help you tweak your underwater 'Plankton skills and maybe even allow you to become a rock star. Joystiq writes: "Serious music geeks only, please. Electroplankton is a music-making application, not a game, as Mile Zero's Thomas reminds us. 'Gamespot has no more business trying to review Electroplankton than Keyboard Magazine should be reviewing Dance Dance Revolution,' he writes."If you've recoreded some of your own creations, be sure to send us a tip with the uploaded file link, and we'll post the best entries on the site.

How unbelievably condescending. What about the fact that they have no business telling people who should and who shouldn't review games? Electroplankton is a fun musical toy aimed at gamers, not first-class music snobs, and GameSpot has every right to review it.

I like that quote. Electroplankton may find its way to many gamers' libraries, but it's one of those games Nintendo's using to aim at a broader audience... although releasing it online only in the US doesn't really accomplish that. Gamespot should go ahead and review it, but you have to keep in mind that they'll do so with the mindset of "game" rather than "fun musical toy."

I would agree with you, Josh, but Ryan Davis from GameSpot stresses in his review that it isn't really a game. The comment that GameSpot shouldn't review Electroplankton isn't fair at all.

I agree. In fact, I was rather impressed with this review. Considering som outlets gave the game a below 5 average or not a score at all... "Stuff Gamer," who shouldn't scores games... ever again... gave it a 1. Apparently they could unterstand how to turn on the DS, and instead went back to making meaningless photoshoots for those below 18 that can't buy Playboy yet.
