The guys and girls entrenched in the homebrew scene continue to impress us, a fact that we assure you has nothing to do with their ability to make our precious DS babies explode from a mere keystroke on their computers. They're really very good. Take, for example, this latest DS application, DS2Key. Upon loading it on your DS and your computer, it turns your portable wonder into a Wi-Fi controller.It's like a folding little Wavebird expressly designed for your emulated SNES games (of which you own the originals, by the way). Though this application only uses the buttons on the DS, we may see something that uses the touch-screen further down the line. Using the DS as a universal remote control unit for your various pieces of equipment sounds like a great idea, with each one getting its own little virtual touch-screen interface. Want to turn down the air conditioner a notch? Just spin the 2D temperature knob with your stylus. How about turning on the room's light? Just slide your stylus over the virtual switch.
Somebody should totally pay us for these ideas.

This sounds an awful lot like adding features onto a handheld that isnt made to have any features at all. If you want features, the only real way to go is a PSP as of now.

You use Homebrew software by using GBA Flash cartridges which are essentially empty GBA cartridges, if you don't have one of those. This is useless information for you.
I used to be heavy into homebrew applications for gba. I lost the pulse of the community, I also lost the USB cable to re-write the cartridge. (I swear its around here somewhere.) Should probably get back into it and get a new one. This sounds like a cool idea though.

Kev50027, you don't know what you are talking about. With homebrew, the DS can just about do anything the PSP can with software. MP3: Moonshell, Video: Moonshell, Emulation: too many to list.
A browser is likely to show up soon now that sgstair's WiFi libraries are complete. There's already a Windows remote control app!

I personally was distressed that Nintendo seemed to only be licensing Game Developers for reasons like this. I have a desire to use the DS as a small Info Terminal/Remote Control for sailing. WiFi is more than capable to accomodate GPS and Compass bearing info, you could do low res charting, radar, sonar and other data, and you could controll your MP3 playlist all from a device that could be stuffed into a heavy duty ZipLock and which, should it fall overboard would only set you back $130. Woo Hoo, I could imagine controlling the Auto-Tiller from the galley!!!
