Who knew that slapping a new coat of paint on the DS could turn out to be such an intricate and time consuming process? Actually, we knew. We knew because we've been staring at inajamaica's Flickr set dedicated to the revitalization of a boring 'ole silver DS. The collection of photos shows a painstaking, step-by-step process that involves the complete disassembly of a DS (sure to excite our resident tech porn fans) and making sure that only the outer shell is exposed to the unrelenting blast of paint. If you've been thinking of doing something similar yourself but were afraid to take the plunge, consider this a method of learning through example. We've seen plenty of skins, stickers and redesigns for the DS, but it seems that this strategy of aesthetic alteration could lead to much more colorful and creative results. We're dying to see how it turns out in the end. Any artists out there willing to paint their next masterpiece on a DS canvas?

I recently painted my friends DS for fun. It is a tedious process, but I think that it is worth it. I painted the outer portion of the bottom and top yellow, and the inner portion black. I think it looks pretty sweet. The hardest part about taking the DS apart is getting those little rubber nubs off from around the top screen so you can get the screws out. Plus its got a bunch of ribbon cables all over the place, way more complicated to mod than the good ol' SP >

Yeah this isn't a step by step process at all....I even did the Flickr Slideshow and they still seemed random.

I found the best way to follow it was to look at each photo, one by one, and read the highlight boxes. They're quite helpful.

I was just thinking about this this morning. Maybe this will give me that extra little push to do some painting!
Ha! I love the Myntz parts cases. :D
Can the buttons be painted? Are there any worries about paint getting sticky, rubbing off, buttons sticking, etc?

I have already disassembled/reassembled a DS and it isn't that difficult of a process, as long as you have the proper screwdrivers. I chose to buy a brand new white shell instead of painting mine however. I still have some internal photos that I could put up if there is any interest. The only advice that I have is to be VERY carful when putting the bottom back on. I drove a screw right through my WiFi antennae, so I've lost some distance there.

Hey im thinking about painting my DS Black and using a tribal stence (used for tattoos) and have a cool tribal design on the top too. I tried getting a graphite DS but i couldnt find one reasonably priced, the flickr is really confusing. Any one have some other links to DS painting?
