Nintendo DS Releases for the week of February 20

monkeySome great games are headed down the pike in the coming weeks, one by one. This week sees the Nintendo DS version of one of my favorite Gamecube franchises.

DS Releases
  • Super Monkey Ball Touch and Roll
Let's hope this one is enough fun to last until Princess Peach hits the town next week.

As always, availability is subject to manufacturer delivery.

1. I really love this feature about the site, the whole "NDS Releases for X week".

It gives us insight on what to look forward, rather than having to search for "when is X title gonna be released?"

Another thing... Monkey Ball!

I didnt play the GCN version of it, but am looking forward to this version

2. One of my franchises too. This is the first game I'm going to get when I get the DS Lite.

3. Can't wait for the DS version of this game!! I only hope it is as good as the GC games.

4. Reviews for this are so far a mixed bag, but I'm betting it's gonna be great!

5. I'm a huge fan of the Super Monkey Ball series, so I'm planning on picking it up pretty much no matter what score the reviewers give it.

Although I think I heard that Amusement Vision didn't make this particluar game. Is that true? Or am I mixing it up with another game?

6. I bought the game on Saturday (it came out here on Friday - finally us in the UK gets something earlier) and it's pretty awful. Monkey race requires you to use the touch screen with the race itself on that bottom screen. Why can't they just use the d-pad ala Mario Kart DS? The main game is too short and easy. I am so dissapointed I am going to return it on Monday. Not worth £30.

This is of course just my personal opinion. :)

7. Does this control the same way as Pac'n'Roll?

8. @ #1 - You should get the GCN version of the game, this one sucks.

9. You have to drag your stylus around the screen to control the monkey. The further away from the monkey the faster you go. A little bit like Animal Crossing WW if you use the touch screen to control your character. I found it is easier to use the touch screen than the d-pad on the main game.

Monkey race is awful because the track design is super basic and the race takes place on the bottom screen with no d-pad movement support.

Don't know about Pac n' Roll haven't tried that yet.

10. Thanks for answering! It's apparently a little different then, even though the screen setup and the general game concept is pretty much the same. In Pac'n'Roll you rub the stylus over Pacman to determine the speed and direction. I you push the stylus over Pacman to the end of the screen and hold it there you get a speed boost, and if you just point it on him he goes to a full halt. I was pretty surprised by it since I got it cheap and didn't think it would be anything special, but it's actually pretty good. It even has some short story segments that remind me a little of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga.
