A quick glance at the New Super Mario Bros. mini-site will show the game has been pushed back yet again. Considering the recent delay the game has received, can we be expected to trust this date? Should we assume there to be another delay on the horizon? We'll just have to salivate over all these screenshots and fantasize of traversing the game's 80 levels just all that much longer.

I believe the delay is due to the DS Lite's release. Why? Well the original DS was released on a Sunday in 2004. May 21 is a Sunday. Games are released on Tuesday's, not Sundays.
I can't be sure, but I don't think the DS was the only Nintendo system released on a Sunday, wasn't the Gameboy SP on a Sunday as well? So if patterns hold true, we may get the Lite and New Super Mario on a Sunday, which is in my favor since I have Sunday's off work and will have the whole day to show it off in public.

You're definitely right, Pancakeshouse. May 21 is a Sunday, and actually the DS was released here on November 21, 2004, meaning the Lite will be out here exactly 1 and a half years (18 months) later. Pretty cool, and you're also right about normal release dates. Almost all games are released in North America on Tuesdays, although Nintendo-published games are released on Mondays, so Sunday is definitely an outlier.
Speaking of release dates, it would be nice if our games were released on Thursdays, like in Japan, so we have the weekend to play new games and not distract us from school/work...

If it is pushed back to that date and Pancakeshouse speculation about the DS Lite being released the same day happens, that's a pretty sweet deal. My girlfriend's birthday is that day and she fell in love with the DS, it got her into gaming - how perfect...
