Lite price and release date coming 4 May

From the metanews department: Being unable to report on the Lite's US release date and price, I instead get to share with you the date when said information is likely to be revealed. Whip out your calendars and dark electronic fruits, because a 1UP podcast claims that the magical date of revelation is set for 4 May. As I said way back in March, I'm expecting a $149.99 Black Lite to launch sometime in June.

What does your gut instinct tell you?

1. I think the difference between the Japan and U.S. releases of the DS Lite will really hurt Nintendo. If they offered it here at the same time, they could have sold far more before the "it's new" hype died down. When the DS lite came out, I would have gotten one, but now I'm not even considering it..

2. White, Black, and Lime Green for US launch. Priced at 149.99 and for 169.99 New SMBs is included. Also, out between May 28 - June 18

3. Sorry, Kev50027, youre quite insane. I want one now more than ever. The only reason I didnt import is fear of dead pixels. I cannot wait to get my hands on a Lite. Now back to Brain Age, these Sudoku puzzles dont solve themselves...

4. I dunno -- I think that Enamel Navy is pretty classy and distinctive from plain ol' black.

If it's over $150, I'll wait until it comes down.

5. No Tobor, but they do get solved in under five minutes :) I'm hoping for no more than $130 sometime in May. I've got 8 games just waiting to be played!

6. I'm crossing my fingers and hope them to release the thing in Canada at the same time as you guys in the states..I've waited and waited for so long but although I could import it but 200+(USD) is abit too much for me.

7.
Hmm, I like it that nintendo is getting things like Wii's name and the release date of the DS out of the way before E3 as it probably means they have way more stuff to show us at E3 and don't want to have them besmirched by an initially unpopular name change and a long sought after but not that important in the long run release date.

I guess we will have to wait a couple weeks to know what that might be.

8. Lets hope that the UK release ushers-in a price point of around £70 GBP (or less)!

9. Sri Lumpa, it's only one week away. May 9 is the day.

10. Today I pre-ordered a DS Lite in Sweden at the GAME franchise store.
They had no release date but it was mandatory to choose which color I wanted.
The colors were SLV, BLU and MAR.

I can only guess that those stood for Silver, Blue and Maroon(?).
The price was 1299 Swedish Kronor (SEK) including VAT which is about 176$ at todays exchange rate.
But usually, when a product retails for 150$ in the States, it costs about 1500 SEK here so that could suggest a retail price of about 129$ in the States.
Hopefully (for some of You) this is the case! :)

I haven't seen anyone talking about those colors anywhere before.

11. I'd say 149.99 with White only.

Posted at 9:50AM on May 2nd 2006 by Artimus

12. Kev,

I'd say you're wrong about the hype dying down. The only people who know the DS Lite exists right now are video game enthusiasts and the Japanese. All of the little girls who got the DS for Nintendogs have no idea what a DS Lite is.

Trust me, when the soccer mom demographic finds out about the DS Lite, Nintendo will have no trouble selling them at all.

13. Black, Red and White at the end of June.

Doesn't matter. I've already got my navy one. :)

14. I think the DS Lite is going to be great, but I just have to wonder why couldn't they have released it this way originally (with the bright screen, smaller case, and better battery). It's only been a 1 1/2 years since the original came out, and now another revision. I'm glad they did this, but I think they could have done it just as easy back then.

15. Sometimes I think it's just better to get things right the first time.... In a way they're admitting they could have done better with the DS in the first place, and are now just figuring that out.

16. My gut tells me that we're going to be breaking open our piggy banks and begging for spare change come tomorrw, when we find out the Lite is releasing the day after E3. (just a prediction)

17. I really hope you're right Nik. This whole rumor going around of June 21st being the release date is pissing me off. Who would release something on a Wednesday!? Don't make us wait anymore, Nintendo.
