Have you guys ever heard of this game called Maplestory? Apparently, clever as they are, developers Wizet have you in NO WAY acquiring syrup to generously cover shortstacks of buttermilk pancakes so that you may fill your body and soul with their warm, fluffy substance. As much of a crime as that is, their focus, which is a 2D side-scrolling MMORPG, isn't too disappointing in contrast according to some. Actually, if the grapevine is to be believed, it's a downright enjoyable experience more so than consuming pancakes (crazy, I know). If you're curious, you could just download it and find out for yourself or have a gander at the rather robust Wiki for some more information.

I actually do play this game already. I wonder if I'd be able to transfer my character. That would definatly make me more likely to buy it.

I just hope that it won't take a leg and an arm to level up in the DS version, but most likely it'll be the same.

Here's what I want.
1. Just a port, I don't want anything different from the original version.
2. Upgradeable. Meaning let us be able to download updates onto the cart/DS.
3. Keep accounts. Why make a new character for a game you have played so long?
4. Connect with people on PCs. So everyone can join in the fun, have both DS and PC players on the same servers.

Playing Maple Story (MS) is awsome. Having it whenever you want is great news for many MS/DS players all over the planet. Archers pwn and you know it.

My brother plays that game actually.
It seems alright. Not my style of game, but he thinks it's fun enough. Maybe I can finally talk him into getting a DS now.

I'm confused... is this being released for the DS?
The PC version can bite me, since there's no Mac client.

So, is the MapleStory coming to the DS? The post failed to mention anything about that.

Maple Story adds nothing to the DS library (if it is, in fact, coming to DS, the article doesn't really say). I played the game for under a month before realizing that every class has but one build, and even then, all the classes are pretty much played the same. Just doesn't mean anything to be a Wizard when every Archer and Thief is doing the exact same thing you are. Oh, and forget about team play. This MMO is all about solo grinding (granted you can party with other people, but it serves little purpose, even late in the game).
Add-in that simply getting from Level 29 to Level 30 (out of 200 Levels, mind you) is more tedious than getting the max level in most other MMOs. After a while, it just gets boring. I've heard of people who'd play this game for about a year and barely make 60, I don't wanna know what it takes to get to 200.
This game might be a free MMO, but you really get what you paid for, too. There are much better free to play MMOs out there.

Also, now that I look at it, the "Read" link confirms that MS is indeed coming to the DS. Has some pretty bad Enlish in there, so details are hard to get, but the main message is plain as day.
Just a shame that the DSF entry has to be so vague about it. It's like... Yeah, I've heard of Maple Story, but where were you going with that?

Yeah, I played Maple Story too, and it was.... alright. Until about level 10 or so. Then it became sooooooooooooooooooooo tedious, and eventually every time I started up, it was the same experience. Walk, attack, run, run back, attack, run, etc. If they are bringing this to the DS, I hope it isn't a direct port.. even if it means that it would be impossible to transfer existing characters or play with others on the PC.. because it will get boring very quickly, and may hinder the development of other MMO's on the DS (although I surely hope not!)

I don't mind playing Maple Story, even if it is a bit tedious at times, I only play for short bursts at a time really... which probably doesn't work to my advantage as some of the items are super-rare... like, blue moon rare. Been playing it since it was in beta, and continued out of.
If all you're going after is levelling, then it's probably not the game for you, but it's not too bad and has interesting events.
I was thinking that this would make a decent DS game actually, so I was a bit surprised to see this post. Not sure how they'd implement it on the DS though, as the game is somewhere in the vicinity of 250-300Mb.
If they can pull it off and add more to the game to make it less tedious, then it'll be awesome.

Maple story is that big? Flyff (http://flyff.gpotato.com/) is just under 500MB and is a rather fun free MM0RPG.
That's a game I'd like to see on the DS :D

Unless you love grindfests, don't play MapleStory or Flyff. The quests are simple "Collect n item from X monster" the entire game. I honestly don't see what's fun about killing the same monster over and over just to get more stats to kill the next higher level monster over and over. One thing that REALLY bugged me about Flyff in particular is that there was no variety in monsters. There was ONE monster type of any particular level. Sure, it's entertaining to fly around, but overall the game is a chore. Then again, you do get what you pay for.

I enjoy the game because I do quests, and I play with my friends from school. And they too apprear to enjoy the game because we get to chat around, help each other level up and complete quests and whatnot. And since most of us also have a DS I'm positive it will be great on the portable too.

That could be used to describe just about any MMO, and is hardly a feature exclusive to Maple Story. Heck, part of why I got into WoW was because both my brother, and a few people from work were into it. Find a different MMO to play with your friends, I can assure you that you'll all have more fun with it.
