Those who have played Final Fantasy IX will vaguely remember a system called "MogNet", in which the player took up the role of carrier between moogles worldwide. There was also something about a purple moogle who used too much hair gel, or something. Whatever.Anyway, the "MogNet" system will be making a comeback in the updated DS version of Final Fantasy III. In addition to performing said tasks to unlock various side-quests in the single-player game, players will have the ability to send messages via Nintendo Wi-Fi to other players of the game. Don't instant messages seem a little easier, though? If Square-Enix doesn't implement some sort of in-game incentive, it may be a fairly unused feature.
More details are still forthcoming, says Square-Enix, so keep holding your breath for a party vs. party battle system over Wi-Fi. Oh, how we long.

Actually, I don't remember MogNet at all from FFIX...
I remember it was there. And there was a giant chocobo in the sky. And disc 4 was horrible.
Anyways, I wonder how the player mail will work? Will that mail unlock new quests for them or you? Will you be able to send mail to a player that hasn't progressed as far as you have?

Fans adding features to games is just as bad as Molyneux touting real-time world growth in Fable and then not delivering. The end result is the same: disappointment at unfulfilled imaginary goals that sour the game experience.

It should be "too."

Final Fantasy III has never been released in North America. What the US called Final Fantasy III for the Super Nintendo was actually Japan's Final Fantasy VI. FFIII is fifteen years old, but all the graphics are being rebuilt from scratch in glorious 3D for the port to Nintendo DS. Otherwise, Square Enix has been very secretive about other updates this classic RPG will have.

#2 - Artemecion and his super slick. I think that was one of the few times I used an FAQ for that game :P
#3 - Uhh, yes, we know that, thanks. No one in this thread has confused US FF3 with Japanese FF3...
