Well kiddies, the Japanese launch has finally come for Final Fantasy III and, as expected, those gamers in the land of the rising fun are going crazy. Supposedly, lines started as early as 3am at Akihabara's Yodobashi Camera with around 80 people already gathered. Other reports noted that most of the rush was for the special Final Fantasy III bundle, as once announcements were made that bundles were sold out lines began to dissolve. Pictures of various retail outlets and those lucky enough to score the game and/or bundle may be found here.Should we anticipate such a demand for the game in our local retail outlets here in the States? What about over in Europe? Or is all this demand drummed up solely for the bundle pack?

Let's get real. The DS is overwhelmingly hotter in Japan than in the States, and the Japanese are INSANE about RPGs. It's literally against the law to release Dragon Quest games on a school day. There's no doubt that FF3 will be a hot seller, but I wouldn't expect lines anywhere for the game.
The only game release I've seen people line up for midnight release in the states is Madden and Halo 2.

I think the demand will only be that great in Japan...but I do love the Strangelove reference!

I agree with Erik Novak. Why do journalists constantly ask whether other not a Dragon Quest/FF game will be as popular in the West as it is in Japan. It won't be. FFIII will sell very well in the US and Europe, I'm sure, but people won't be lining up fromt he night before to get their hands on it. The game I've ever seen generate a line is GTA San Andreas..........
