Secret "Simple Start" Wi-Fi connection? [Update 1]
File this one under "What the hell?" Some astute gamer has discovered a hidden feature inside the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection setup menu, and one that certainly leans itself toward DS-to-Wii connection theory. The video gives an extremely detailed explanation, so check it out....now. Go ahead.
Done? All right. The system asks for the player to press a "Simple Start Wi-Fi Button", something that clearly doesn't exist on any existing Nintendo hardware. So, is this how the Wii and the DS will sync up? Before you run off wildly screaming the news throughout your house, we offer these two bits of counter-evidence. First, regading the Wii, we've seen essentially every button and switch on the damn thing, even inside the "mysterious" front flap; no "Simple Start" or even remotely related button has been seen or reported. Second, accessing this mode by hitting the absolute upper-left pixel on the touch screen is ridiculous; in certain cases the stylus can't even reach the pixel, and a toothpick or other thin, prodding device must be used.
We've seen no reason why "DS Download Play" would fail to properly pick up and sync with a Nintendo Wii console, so we'll chalk this up as a feature that will fade, like the legendary city of Atlantis, into one of the unexplained mysteries of the past.
[Update 1: The internet, it seems, will brook no mysteries. Save Atlantis. Click here for an extremely detailed explanation of this feature, and as speculated, it has nothing to do with Wii connectivity.]
[Thanks, Super-Jesse-Mario!]

I Believe that is for connection to the Wii to give the wifi settings to make everything more easier and to have the same Wifi ID

Just as a warning, you don't need a toothpick to do this, you can easily do it with your stylus.
This is certainly interesting though, I don't know what to make of this.
And that Pictochat thing, my screen turns purple on my DS lite.

I have an original Launch Week DS Phat, and it doesn't work. I tried it with Mario Kart and Tetris DS.

I do hope this is something unnecessary since I'm totally unable to do it.
And I have version 4 firmware from a Candy Pink launch DS.

It's no so secret. In the DS Web Browser, it's a regular option. There's a button in between "AOSS" and "Manual Entry" that says らくらく無線スタート ("quick radio start"). And this "corner" trick doesn't work. It asks you to push the Rakuraku-Musen Start button on your access point.

I just tried on my ds lite and phat. It worked on both. I thought maybe they could comunicate together with the simple start?
My phat is ver 1 so firmware has nothing to do with it.

baochan is correct (the らくらく無線スタート button results in the green spinner and everything). In fact this is true for all Japanese wi-fi games. It looks like they just didn't remove the button properly in the US version (further evidenced by the fact that you have to press the 0,0 coordinates. Also, you don't have to go through all the steps that the video showed, it's enough to just go into the connection settings screen and press the top left corner without first searching for an access point.
@Matt: Both music tracks in that video are from Super Mario 64 (Bowser's Road and Dire, Dire Docks)

Very interesting! Has anyone tested to see if this is for the DS Wifi Dongle (since it's almost redundant for people with routers) or with other DS units? I may try it with other units simultaneously (3+ units) in two weeks, but if I can find my fatty original DS I'll try it with that and my Lite.

I have a version 6 ds, and it doesn't work.
My guess as to what it could be is maybe an option for ds repair, so nintendo could sync up with your ds and access it and properly debug, and that could be why nintendo said don't mess with it.
Chances are I'm wrong though.

Works for me. MKDS, DS Phat, firmware v1 (early adopter. And I got screwed for it. Like always. *ahem* But anyway...).
Much as I'd like to believe it's Wii-related, the "feature we decided not to use" theory makes more sense, given the available evidence.

Has anyone tried it with one of those Linksys routers that have the green "easy setup" buttons on the front? (Newer Model WRT54G, iirc)
i.e you press the "easy setup" button, which unlocks the router security for a moment, while you set it up.

The button they're probably referring to is one which is present on some newer Wifi routers which allows for an encrypted connection to be made without entering a password -- instead you just push a button on the router.
For example: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Promotion_C2%26cid%3D1121874561907&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper

aka the easy way to set up a ds to wifi....
aka a "simple start"....
i have a feeling ninty tried to do a similar thing with another popular router company but it fell through. or hasn't been implemented yet.

I can't get it to work with Bleach DS, so it must be US localized, heh.
Got it to work with Starfox DS, though, on import Navy Lite.
