Nintendo's US press event recently concluded and while all of your Wii information needs have probably been satisfied, nothing else was discussed about Wii-DS connectivity. We know that Iwata already said that the WiiConnect24 service could be used to download content to the DS, whether it be a demo or something else, and also that the DS could also be used as a controller through the Wii's menu interface, but this was not demonstrated at the event or further discussed there. So what does this mean? Probably nothing. We should still see Nintendo's handheld play a large role in the Wii's interactivity and extra content. We should still see the DS downloading demos from the WiiConnect24 service. We should still see the DS being used as a controller to navigate menus in the Wii's interface. Just because Nintendo didn't show any of the features you'll be able to access on the Wii through the DS doesn't mean they aren't coming. We should be seeing and hearing more on the two consoles interacting as the launch date for the Wii draws near.

I think Nintendo is biting off a lot right now. They have to get the regular-old gaming working how they want first, and that alone is daunting. Then they have to worry about network multiplayer and Nintendo DS connectivity. These are very tough things to get right, and I'd rather them release working versions when they are done than broken versions up front that have us eagerly awaiting the first patch.

The point of this press conference was to get the key info - pricing and dates - out on the street. You can be almost assured that TGS will allieviate some of the concerns we have about the connectivity, as well as some of the other new features for the Wii (like the channels and Mii-game integration).

That's not exactly true that no DS interactivity was discussed. The ability to upload Pokemon from Diamond/Pearl to Battle Revolution (the Wii game) was reconfirmed.

Jaine, it sounds like you used an online language translating tool to form that sentence. I couldn't make any sense of it :P hehe, oh well. Anyway, it'd be cool if they make something like Four Swords for the Wii, only using DSs instead of GBAs. There may already be news about something like this and I just don't know about it yet...

Kaizoku Risu: if I were Nintendo, I would be wary of rehashing ideas from the Gamecube/GBA connectivity "experiment"...

would love to hear that the classic games are able to be uploaded to the DS like a demo, so you could take them on the road with you.

I think they're just holding a few things back before release. If they told us everything yesterday, there would be less things to get us more excited later on. I predict D/P and Battle Revolution will be used as their flagship game for DS to Wii connectivity. You won't be able to finish either game without having both, or something similar. And the Wifi trading could have a lot to do with Wii. There's probably a lot to it that they're just saving for later.

I'm hoping to use the DS to control the Opera browser on Wii (at least the typing part)... I have a feeling typing with the Wiimote won't be too easy...
