The online aspect of the DS is, though not without its flaws, a rapidly growing and very successful service. And while connecting to several players around the globe is all well and dandy, it was uncertain if the tiny handheld had the capabilities to support a true MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game). Allay your fears, nobles! South Korean publisher Nexon has announced a DS version of their popular casual MMO Maple Story, which to our knowledge appears to be a cross between a side-scrolling action game and a traditional RPG.
Can you imagine if something like WoW was portable? People could have social lives and play the game at the same time! Maple Story might not be on the same level as those over in Azeroth, but it's a good start. Also, check out Maple Story's trailer, which might just be the greatest video game trailer of all time. Seriously.
[Thanks, Eric!]

Damn...apparently if I was a young, attractive Japanese girl I would LOVE this game. You win again, Japan...

Maple story is an incredibly fun game quite honestly. I would recomend trying the game out if you have any interest at all. It is completely free for the PC I think, so it can't hurt.

I think Maplestory is horrible. Trash. Crap. It might be fun for you in the beginning, but after about 30 levels or a month, it's grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind, head to town to buy potions, grind grind grind grind grind grind grind grind, head to town to buy new equipment, and...GUESS WHAT! MORE GRINDING!
And parties suck for everything but a few party quests. And those party quests suck because they're either impossible to get in, impossible to finish, or impossible cause of hackers. There's no reason to be in a party to train, unless you're a class that sucks training alone like a cleric.
You'll start seeing how things suck much once you reach around the level 50s. It gets worse around the 60s, where it takes you 12+ hours to get a level.
I haven't played since November, and the last time I had a 70+ character was in May so correct me if I'm wrong.
Even though I hate Maplestory as an MMORPG, it still would be cool to have an MMORPG on the DS, no matter how mediocre, so I'll still get it. :P

how much you want to bet it wont be an MMO but just a single player (or wifi'd multiplayer) for the DS. It will just use the maple story characters......

I may just be saying this now...
but no thanks. I'll stick to my Everquest II, etc.
But this is definitely cool for the DS.

The DS’s first MMORPG???
Im excited if they keep it an MMO and dont turn it into some kind of single player with wifi to trade items or some other tacked-on garbage.
