Reader greatslack wrote in to us explaining a little problem with his DS Lite. See, the touch-screen has kind of taken on this yellowish tint. In hitting the tubes to find others who documented this same problem, he stumbled upon this. The linked story does show a DS Lite unit with a noticeable tint, however we've never even heard of such a thing happening before.
Have any of you noticed a yellowish tint affect the touch-screen of your DS Lite?

My little sister's phat has a yellow tint....no, make that an yellow coloring to the top screen.
She's been complaining about it and wants a lite. It's really bad; all the colors are distorted - Mario looks practically brown!
My phat's perfect though. It's really wierd that her's has the yellow top screen.

It seems like probably MOST of them will have a yellowish tint because it's a touch screen.
And, when you think about it, really, does it matter?

Sadly all backlite devices suffer this at one point or another. My Phat has a yellow touch screen and my second phat and lite have yet to suffer from it.

No tint, but I have a really, really bad flickering on the upper screen after about 10 minutes of play. Haven't been able to use the extended warranty because none in stock

I have to say i'm shocked so few people knew about this...
The reason is because there are more than one touch screen type out there. I forget the full details but i recall alongside the yellow tint on one type, one type has little tiny dots in a grid over the screen.
The yellow tint is very suttle and only when both screens are white can you really tell. If yours is noticeable elsewhere then it's probably a fault.

My Onyx DS Lite seems okay.
There might be a tiny difference between the two screens but not enough to bother me even after being made aware of it.
No hinge problems.
No bad pixels.

My black ds lite has been like that since day one. i notice it has a slight tint on the startup "this thing can potentially render you blind" screen. i figured it had something to do with the touch screen. I don't notice it at all during gameplay so its not a big deal.

Actually, it's very easy to fix it. You just need to open the battery cover. Below the battery (you don't need to take it out) there are two small screws. Moving them shouldn't void your guarantee. Just twist them with a screwdriver until you get the normal color (while the system is on). Each of the screws is for one of the two screens. Painless and easy, just make sure you don't use a magnetic screwdriver, just in case.

I sent mine into Nintendo to fix my screen and my hinge (hinge was cracked as usual and the screen was swollen and incredibly squishy which took away any precision). When I got it back, the new screen was super yellow. I guess someone else sent theirs back for the really yellow screen and they gave it to me instead. I can't send it back though because it would cost $70 this time. If the screens are doing something different it's usually okay, but if they're showing a continuous picture it looks awful. Also a lot of games change screens by fading to white and back on both screens and that looks pretty bad too.

Mine has had a very obvious yellow tint since the day I bought it. I always just assumed it was something to do with the way the touchscreen was made.

Well, the easiest way to avoid this stan, would be either (a) Not urinating on your DS.lite, or an even brighter (b) Not leaving your DS.lite near the toilet when children are in the house.

Slightly yellow bottom screen, slightly red top screen on an Onyx DS Lite (the second; the first Onyx DS was hastily manufactured and had a defective and crooked touch screen. It went back to Nintendo Heaven). The GF's white DS Lite (from the US summer launch) has no discoloration and both screens are color accurate. Makes me wonder whether ramped-up production issues leading up to the holidays led to lower-than-usual Nintendo QC.

Don't let anyone believe you that this is "normal" and should be accepted. I've just bought a DS Lite and went back to the store. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and we went through around 6 boxes to find one that was acceptable to me. It's not just the touch screen which can be yellow. I saw 2 DS Lites which had a yellowish upper screen so it seems just coincidence which display gets used as upper or lower screen. The one I have now is perfect and of course the other bunch is going to be sold to people who don't notice or don't care. But if it's bothering you it's always worth a try to get a replacement.
