That's one of the many tough questions Robert Falcon asks over at modojo.com. He decided to analyze the DS and PSP's ability to survive various natural disasters, including floods, earthquakes, and blizzards. Keep in mind that if your DS Lite somehow manages to find its way into a pit of boiling lava, you need to take pictures so we can post them. Seriously, that stuff is blogging gold.
On a slightly more serious tack, has anyone had a DS or DS Lite miraculously survive when it had no right doing so? Let us know!
[Thanks, Justin!]

This was mentioned quite some time ago, but I felt it needed to be reposted.

Some jerks tried to ruin a DSLite at a Walmart or Target.
Glad they couldn't ;)

I recently made the mistake to out my precios DS Lite in a nonzipable pocket during a thunder storm (I'm sure you know where this is going, but for details sake!) I ran through the rain to reach my car as dry as possible. But while hoping over a lage puddle, the Precious, I mean DS fell into the puddle, completely submerged(for about 5 seconds). Then one of my fast-acting friend pulled it out. I spent the next 15 minutes tending the DS's every need(drying it off). Up to this day I have yet to have any difficulty with it.

Not a DS, but several years ago my dad rolled his truck into a ditch with my Gameboy Color in the front seat. I found it three days later buried in the mud under a couple feet of water, completely watterlogged. After letting it dry for a few weeks, I opened up the case, carefully cleaned out all the dried mud and fired it up. It is still working today!

I love playing NDS on the toilet after coming home from school. On afternoon I got careless and I dropped it right into the bowl! fortunately i was only doing #1 so i was able to rince it off and let it dry. Still works today.. my touch screen seems to be a little yellowish compare to the top screen, but i read that it was normal! *whew*

Dropped my DS Lite on various occasions.. I'm a careless son of a bitch, but the worst I have is a small scratch on the touchscreen and a forming hinge crack (which actually seemed to show up on its own).

Not really "normal", just common. I think Nintendo fixes it.

Yesterday I was riding the bus and sitting in the back seat playing my DS lite when the busdriver, for whatever reason, made a sudden brake. A very sudden brake! My DS flew out of my hands, high into the air, the stylys flew out, and the DS slammed to the ground with a big smash.
I let out an surprised "SH*T!" and jumped to the rescue. And what do you know? Nothing had happened to it! I was quite relieved, but a little surprised at the fact that none of the other passengers flinched the slightest bit. I think commuters in denmark are a bit antisocial, so it was good luck that I could entertain myslf with the DS for the rest of the trip;-)

I have carelessly dropped my PSP out onto floors of various substances (rug, concrete, tiles, linoleum, wood and blacktop)and it hasnt gotten more than a scratch on it. Most times the psp's detacheable parts fly violently in different directions (battery, cover and sometimes my 2gb stick!)I work in a psychiatric ward from 11pm to 8am so i get a lot of play time, but that means its contstanly in my loose scrub pockets!
edit- i have recently purchased a PSP condom, made of thick blue rubber.

My original DS survived not one, but two accidents. One was a mishap involving a can of Blue Jolt and a backpack (which caused my L trigger to stop working), the next was a friend dropping it, causing the hinge to crack. I finally got it replaced with a DS lite recently, so it's all good (and now I can finally play Metroid Prime)!

My 12-year-old neighbor was sitting on top of the washer (because there's only one chair at the computer desk) and dropped her DS onto the tile floor. The hinge broke and so one side hangs loose. It still works though.

My fiance and I were in a pretty crazy car crash last year in January of 2006. We were driving back down to Florida after a winter break trip to North Carolina. We had only driven for about an hour and we were in South Carolina. It was rainy and we were driving through the mountains. A semi had been tailgating us and it finally rear-ended us. We were in a Honda Civic. I was asleep at the time with my DS phat on my lap. I had a cheapy case for it. I awoke to the car being flipped, found us upside down, the car bounced on the roof and we grinded to a halt right side up in the mud on the other side of the road. The windows were popped out, the front windshield was cracked, the roof had been dented, the back was busted from the semi and the sides were torn from grinding into the mud. I was completely freaking out and crying but we were both perfectly fine, not even any scratches. A few passerbys stopped to help us and one of them found my DS phat amongst the debris 20 feet from where we landed. The case and DS phat were drenched in mud but my DS phat worked perfectly. It continued to work just fine up until I traded it in for my DS lite. That was a weird experience.

My DS fell from my pocket during science class. It wasn't fatal but I'm glad the teacher was cool about it and didn't confiscate it from me. I nearly crapped my pants when it fell. LOL
My DS (Lite) is a tough little bugger. I bought a case to protect it from falls.

My DS Lite wasn't lucky enough. I was playing my DS on my bed and happend to leave it open to go get something to drink. When I came back, I see my boyfriend jump on to my bed not realizing my DS was there. :( He broke the right hinge off. *tear* Now the Screen hangs kinda loose...but i can still play it. :(
