Despite the fact that some franchises just don't port well, the subject of whether or not any given property should make an appearance on the DS inevitably comes up. Square Enix is bringing their big franchises to the handheld. Mortal Kombat will be making an appearance. Katamari Damacy, however, rolled on by. We could go on, but we figure you get the drift. What we want to know is -- which franchises do you really want to see on the DS, and which ones do you hope stay far, far away?

I'd love to see some SaGa games, be they ports or sequels. Both the original trilogy and the Romancing SaGa SNES games were truly ahead of the competition at the time, and in the case of the latter two games in the Romancing SaGa series, they still seem innovative.
Broken Sword likewise, it'd be great to have ports or a whole new game come to the system. The DS is an ideal platform for point-and-click, surely?
As for franchises I'd rather not see... Tekken, Virtua Fighter and DOA spring to mind, although that's more the fault of the genre. 3D Fighters are just far too awkward for the DS from what we've been seeing so far. I'd also pay good money to see Spyro stay off the DS. Then again, I'd pay good money to keep Spyro out of gaming in general, until they can get a decent dev. team on it.

I personally do like franchises. e.g. Mario: is there any NEW users actually liking it? Most new gamers skip the damm old franchises for they are filled with old crap which only understood and appreciated by old timers.
I have hothing against old timers - being one myself. But frankly all the franchises are really ... boring.
I wish there were more new AND original games. Even if they resemble some games from past.
More RPG, simulators and puzzles (NOT arcades!!).
Actually, what I want most are puzzles: the only real puzzles I have found are the extras included in New Mario and Tetris. Meteos is arcade. Pokemon Link too...
P.S. Not all franchises are the same. Compare SimCity and Tycoons. I have seen year ago all new Rail Road Tycoon - and all the game organization and utility instantly reminded me of ten years back: the same dumb controls, same functionality of decade ago (now completely useless - or more like standing in a way) - and bunch of stuff missing just as it was missing decade ago. (Same goes for e.g. Mario or Mario Karts.) On other hand, SimCity manages with every release to push more and more into the game, marking every new release with something special. (e.g. Sonic or Zelda.)

Some of the old LucasArts stuff - Day of the Tentacle, Indy (the adventures), Sam & Max
Some of the Sierra stuff as well - Leisure Suit Larry (for God's sake, *NOT* like that new POS), Space Quest, King's Quest

Feeling naïve, I'd like to see OKAMI on the DS... Or at least on the Wii. Too bad they closed down the studio. Here's hoping, anyway.

#5 You beat me to it - I agree in regards to Capcom's Okami. The game looks great...too bad (for me, at least) it's a PS2 exclusive. I've read many glowing reviews, and the "brush" seems perfect for the DS.

Fire Emblem would work well on the DS, as would many turn-based strategy games (a new FF Tactics, perhaps)
But DS couldn't do the F-Zero franchise justice, i say, the series wasn't any good until GC, because GC was the first one that could render that kind of speed well

I know it isn't really a franchise but i'd like to see a Transport Tycoon game come to the DS, before i didn't think it was possible, but now with Sim City DS being released i think it could become a reality. I wish someone ported the Deluxe version, that would be portable gaming heaven.

Starcraft! Or any other high-quality RTS game, I'd love to play that on a DS.
And yes Rob, I'd love to see one of the classic adventure games on our beloved handheld as well. I'm totally digging Hotel Dusk right now, and I wish there were more games like this available.

Kirby's avalanche. It's like Tetris on crack. Of course, it's been under a ton of other names, but there's nothing like the feeling of whipping your oppenent and hearing "avalaaaaanche!"

I would like to see a Metal Gear game on the DS. I think it could be way better on the DS rather than the Piece of Shit Station Portable. I mean the 2 screens could add alot of new elements, the touch screen too, I cant even imagine what they will come up with for touch, and the mic maybe., and wifi too!
What I would like to see is a really bad ass game on a Nintendo system. Something like lair or bioshock and mass efect. Imagine if Nintendo did something like Lair? Why does the 360 and Turd Station 3 get that. I a Nintendo system got that kind of stuff, it would really capture the hardcore audience and the Wii and DS would simply rule the earth. I think those kinds of games is all they are missing.

what i would like to see is nintendo open up the DS's wifi for a portable virtual console so i can play all the originals sans the emulator. of course there would be no way to save the games, so maybe the DS2 will have flash memory, that would make it plausible.
