If paint by number gets you so excited you can't even see straight, have patience -- your day in the sun is coming, courtesy of the DS. A Jeux France blogger got their hands on an import copy of Picross DS and had nothing but love for the game, particularly when it came to the online mode. Might be worth importing, for those of you who hate waiting for localizations that may never come.

I loved this game for the original gameboy oh-so-many-years ago. Too bad it can't be a cheap game like Cooking Mama or Sudoku.

If you like paint by numbers, but not importing or Japanese or whatever, a slightly less beautiful game that has paint by numbers is Essential Sudoku. Nowhere does it say that, but the game actually has 1000 sudoku (number puzzles it calls it) en 1000 paint by numbers (picture puzzles). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Essential-Sudoku-DS-Nintendo/dp/B000G3JWVY/

Thanks for drawing attention to this! I love the color puzzle screen shots -- they look beautiful. Looking forward to this one! Now if only they'd start including other forms of picture puzzles in their games...Conceptis Puzzles is always premiering new formats, and I'd love to be able to play FAP puzzles on the go.

i got my imported copy a week ago and have literally played it every day. i adored the original game boy picross, playing it on and off for over a decade, and this DS version is my current obsession. i love that there are "Brain Age" style time challenges that track your progress every day. i love actually being able to draw lines on the touch screen (though button controls are still available). i love the various styes of tiles in each level. i love being able to draw my own pictures on a blank canvas and then transform it into a picross puzzle. i haven't tried any multiplayer yet because none of my friends have DSes. in fact, the only problem i ever have with this game is that a vast majority of the on-screen text and menus are in japanese, so i sometimes have to navigate through menus blindly to find out what they do, but you start to learn/remember which button does what.
easily the most addictive game i've bought for my DS yet (and i LOVED hotel dusk and elite beat agents). i want them to release it here simply for a larger audience, but if they don't, i'm perfectly happy with my illegible import.

I just got my copy today. It's a mario picross fan's dream game.
Using the Wi-Fi you can actually also freely download packs of puzzles from previous nintendo picross games. (5 packs available now with 10 puzzles each.)
