There seems to be a very positive correlation between ease of use and price in the world of homebrew, and the latest all-in-one product is no exception. The DS-Xtreme 2GB is touting itself as a PSP killer, featuring a decent amount of space for homebrew applications, music, and movies. It's an elegant solution, connecting to the PC via standard USB and fitting in the standard DS-cartridge slot with no extra hardware required ... but the damn thing costs $129.99.If you're very rich looking to break into the homebrew scene, which is actually quite developed on the DS, this is an excellent option, but we do highly recommend a bit of intelligent shopping before making your decision. The DS-X is not yet released, but it's close, so keep an out at their website for the official date and further details.

Seriously though, get the R4 or M3. It'll save you close to $80 if you play your cards right. Amazon the 2GB microSD for 20 bucks plus the R4 for 40, your looking at less than half the price of the DS-X.

Seriously, don't get the DS-X unless you are very rich. Get the R4. It'll save you heaps. The DS-X is also very slow at start up.

using the M3 since it came out, works great. Glad I did not get the DS-X. I don't see the point.

I got the second edition of the M3 that has only the black casing instead of both colors and I love it. Plus SNEmulDS is REALLY shaping up and new versions and just popping up weekly. DS-X doesn't really offer much, the size depends on your MicroSD you use.

I've been using a M3 Perfect Lite since they came out, perfect little device for playing Doom 2, Day of the Tentacle (SCUMMVM), playing NES, watching cartoons, listening to MP3s, etc...
Now that the M3 Perfect Simply is out, I suggest anyone looking for a flash device picks that up. If you want GBA functionality with your flash cart, go with the M3 Perfect Lite, if you're just looking for pure DS action, pick up a M3 Perfect Simply for a fraction of the DS-X. Plus you just add whatever size MicroSD card you want, they come upto 2GB now and Newegg's got them as cheap as $30.

I bought an R4 recently and it's really something you can't live without. I had to order 3 more because everyone in my family wanted one. Another good thing is that the microsd cards are readily available and getting cheaper all the time. It couldn't have been easier to set up, either...and I'm a 33 year old mom. My husband's PSP just got stolen and he asked for a DS as a replacement. Fine with me!

The reason the DSX cost so much more is because of the FPGA built into it which allows for substantial upgrades in the future. Because other companies, like supercard, have to make actual revision to hardware they need to release new versions of their product. But the DSX hardware is as good as it will get.
The next update will feature a great increase in the OS speed, as well as transfer speed. So R4 fanboys can stop bitchin'. DSX is a sound product, although the PR is over the top, the actual product is great and it has room to grow. The DSX company doesn't need THAT many updates like other flashcard franchises BECAUSE there weren't that many bugs to begin with. Now, its just enhancing whats already there, and they are ironing out the speed, etc.
Which company can say that a firmware update made great speed changes to a product? For four months the DSX was sold out, not enough of it could be made to the audience which desired it.
We shall see how this turns out when the next update comes out, if it does fix the speed problem most R4 people will say "So what?, the R4 did it to begin with" but it also creates the question "if the FGPA can increase the speed, create custom apps within the DSX OS, what other interesting things could this flashcart do?"
There MIGHT be a R4 revision, a revamp to the R4 for the hardware. But the DSX will not be like that, the release of the DSX 16Gb is just for space, all in all its the same hardware. This is a long-run company, that plans in supporting this unit for years to come. They created the DSX 16gb because it was demanded.

Now that the PR guys have had their chance to comment...
Sorry, but speed is not an issue with the R4, so you can stop touting that feature now. Not a fanboy or something (a backup card fanboy, wtf?). A rom takes about 2 seconds to load. Boy thats quite a wait!
Guess what you failed to mention. When the 4GB micro-SD cards hit the market, all the R4 users have to do is upgrade their storage. But I guess some people would rather pay 4x to buy the cartridge emulation hardware all over again, plus the extra storage. It's just so thrilling!
There may be other advantages to the DSX that I'm not aware about, but it doesn't much matter to me bc I have found any limitations to the R4 yet. But guess I'll go cry in the corner because I'm a flash cart fanboy. Sob.

There are a lot of bugs in the R4? Interesting, considering I haven't found any.
FGPA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is nice, but not worth the extra cost and, in this case, not worth the lack of removable/expandable storage. There aren't that many advances to be made with a DS flashcart, and I doubt that there will be more than one or two advances (if that) that would require upgrade from the R4. In the meantime, you still have the extra $60-70 in your pocket and have the flexibility that the removable storage gives you (especially as we are continually seeing microsd prices bottoming out).

I agree, get the R4/M3 Simply instead, with a 2gb MicroSD card, its not worth the extra money for the DS-X.

Lorenzo, 16Gb is only 2 GIGABYTES. Who cares? I paid $11 on Amazon for this.. and right now they have it for $9.39! I could buy an R4 for $45 + NINE 2-GIGABYTE cards (total of 18 GIGS!) for the price of your crappy product. AND if R4 did release a firmware update, its drag and drop. I just plug it into the INCLUDED usb reader and drop the new firmware on the microSD card. Done.
FYI:
I bought it using these links..

This is slightly off topic, but does anyone know why the R4 is slightly cheaper that the M3 Simply? Aren't they exactly the same?

And what's the EZflash-V like compared to the R4 and M3Simply? Is it as compatible as those two? And, does the rumble pak work with commercial (real, store-bought) games?

The M3 DS Simply is way better. Just think about it. If you run out of space ( Which is REALLY easy ), on the DS-X, you HAVE to delete files in order to add new ones. On the M3DSS, you can just buy another Microsd card. And they are really cheap in case you're wondering.
