Japanese hardware sales, Apr. 9 - Apr. 15: 433420-302039 Edition

Do you have one?"You n00b sunnuva bitch," said the legendary knight 3494-5541-9771. "Pwnage ... is inevitable."

"Hah!" said his adversary, 7111-9463-2931. "If you wish to grok your princess once more, you'll taste the fury of my skillz!" He raised his arms high in the air. "363171-765491, I summon thee from the shades of hell! Rise forth and rock this bitch!"

The ground shook, and from a spewing chasm came the beast, hideous and deformed. 3494-5541-9771 stood his ground. No creature would keep him from his princess. He dodged a 7612-8113-4353-1919 and drew his 1913-1564-8328, shining in the darkness. With one deft blow he severed the 363171-765491's head, and leapt toward 7111-9463-2931.

"Boom--" shouted 7111-9463-2931, raising his staff. The two collided--

"HEADSHOTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!"

And all was silent. 3494-5541-9771 had won. He sheathed his 1913-1564-8328 and approached his beautiful princess, 654232-918811. Her eyes fluttered open.

"Did you ... did you pwn him?"

"I did, fair princess."

"Well done, knight. And now, your just reward..."She slowly began to disrobe...

"Wait," she said suddenly. "Do I have your Friend Code?"

"What? I don't need your friend co--"

"Sorry, sweetie," said 654232-918811, donning her gown once more. "No code, no multiplayer." She walked away.

"I ... but ... FRAK!"

1. When you make two gaming machines that print money, maybe then Nintendo will listen to you.

2. I swear, if Nintendo simply got rid of the friend codes, the two consoles wouldn't be printing money, they'd be rolling out diamonds.

3. Friend codes don't affect sales, and keep little kids safe. It's win win for Nintendo. On the other hand, it pisses off those of who actually want to have a good time. It really is a shame, there is such potential if they would just get rid of friend codes.

With all due respect,

4. Wow, that was hilarious and I agree, the main reason I rarely play online with my DS are the friend codes. Oh and heavenly soldier, when you are successful does that mean you can alienate customers with ridiculous bullshit? You can but they won't be happy. Friend Codes are by no means a deal breaker for the DS, we all love it, but how many of you can honestly say that you would rather NOT have friend codes?

Posted at 1:33PM on Apr 21st 2007 by Conbus71

5. Agreed - friend codes = not fun. I play online regularly with my 360 and (sometimes) my PSP - not my DS or Wii.

Nintendo sales don't always seem adversely affected by decisions of their that I dislike. Doesn't mean I should dislike those decisions any less. Good sales don't mean something is good.

I'm amazed by how short the memory of fanboys seems to be. I seem to remember the Nintendo contingent railing against the PS1/PS2 era Sony fanboy assertion that sales equated to proof of quality.

6. Again, you're not seeing the root of the issue

Friend Codes aren't the problem, its the lack of community that is. If there were a chat or friend-confirmation enabled community of some kind (like the rival system in MPH) then no one would be bitching about it

You have fun game, ask other player to text friend code, he does, you later enter it, or (a la MPH) just ask for an add to a rivals list. and the biggest problem would be solved (2nd problem, the completely non-integrated system)

7. Yeah, I agree with Mr Khan. Besides, you only need friend codes to play with specific people, or at least in the two games i have (MPH and MKDS) and random matches against other people is pretty ok. That said, I don't play online that much because I suck at MPH and I just got MKDS. I still wish there was some sort of ingame chat, perhaps disabled by default even but still allowed so you can ask someone to share friend codes. The rival system is flawed in that both people have to add each other and you don't even get a notification that the other person requested to add you. Btw, Rival Radar has got to be a joke, right?

8. Props to Jason for his use of the word grok.
