Japanese magazine Shonen Jump has unveiled the first screenshots of Square Enix's Final Fantasy IV 3D remake, confirming rumors about its development that've been circulating since yesterday. The preview shows a sampling of combat and Cecil wandering through a populated town. Run past the post break for the scanned page and a smug look from Shonen Jump's pirate guy. With FFIV released for the GBA around late 2005 and FFIII remade for the DS just last November, are you starting to tire from all of Square Enix's rehashes like we are? We won't deny that the 3D engine looks great, but do we have to revisit every single Final Fantasy adventure with it, especially when an updated version of this particular game already came out less than two years ago? And for the love of all that is good and holy, why haven't Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger made it on the list of games to be remade yet?

[Update 1: Whoops, mixed up our dark knights with dragoons. Thanks for the correction, crossbone!)

Duuuuuuuude... and I've still to beat this damned game on the SNES. I think this one might get me to actually try to finish it. I'm already liking the VJ-esque character design.

I've never played the original so I'll definitely be picking this up.

I will stand in line to buy this or any other 3d remake of a classic final fantasy game they throw my way. Having beaten the original I would list IV as one of the best in the series.

to be fair, the GBA remake was crap. at least in the States. it was buggy and laggy to the point of unplayable, as far as i'm concerned. i hear europe got a better version, though. personally, i think this looks fantastic, and i hope they just keep going on up through VI.

Well, I considered buying the GBA port in the near future, since I haven't played any version of this game yet - well, I think I'll wait a little bit ;-)

Newsflash: FFVI"j" has been FFVI ever since we got the damn game way back on FF Anthology. We all know what FFVI is by now. Honest.
Besides, there never even -was- an "FF6j." I believe you're looking for the terms "FF2j" and "FF3j."
Cheers~

Given a lot of people didn't like the GBA FF4 because of sluggishness (I also remember hearing about some bugs that the GBA version introduced), a full-on remake is welcome in my book. And since we'll probably see FF5 and FF6 on the DS anyway, might as well go for it.

I wasn't biting when FF III came out last year because of what I was sure would be archaic gameplay mechanics like I found in Dawn of Souls for GBA. However I recently picked up the FFVI remake and love it to death so this one should be awesome :D
Still... Squeenix? How about after this we move away from Final Fantasy for a while mmmkay? After Tactics 2, Revenant Wings, FFIII and FFIV I think we're ready for some Chrono Trigger lovin' ;)

I knew it! Ever since Romancing SaGa had their remake I just knew SE would go back and do a lot of their 2D games and give them an extreme makeover.
I wonder if we'll get the new content from FFIVA in this one? I really liked the "extended version" of FF4 the best.
