Put on your sleuthing caps, ladies and gents, we have a bonafide mystery on our hands. Surely you remember, with chagrin and unfulfilled longing, the news of the canceled Halo DS project, reported by IGN editor-in-chief Matt Casamassina. He even went so far as to say that he played the title, and love him or hate him, Matt tends to speak verily.Enter: last night's San Francisco Halo 3 beta event. The Bungie team, responsible for the development of all things Halo, were interviewed by numerous gaming outlets and media sources, including one Rumor Reporter. When asked about the ill-fated Halo DS, Bungie's Brian Gerrard, Director of Franchise and Community Affairs, commented, "Wow, I have never heard or seen such a project, nor do we have plans for any DS Halo title."
We doubt either of these two respected news sources were lying or mistaken, which leaves the question: who made the mysterious Halo DS, the one Matt C. played? There's only one obvious answer, of course.
Shiggy made it.
[Thanks, Bruce!]

Of course it's not true!
#1 It's the Bread and Butter of the XBOX which makes it completely off limits for another console to use.
#2 Halo on a DS? I'm sorry folks but Halo on a DS would be balls. I own a DS and love it but there is no way it would be a FPS shooter. It would end up being a side scroller or some bullshit like that.

And what's not to say that Microsoft may not have persued such an endeavor on their own? Craig Harris confirmed that a Halo for GBA was at least in the planning stages a few years ago, this is nothing new. Remember, Microsoft owns the Halo IP, not Bungie, so they could do a portable Halo without Bungie ever knowing if they so chose.

so... you didn't really like Metroid Prime Hunters, did you? haha, I guess nobody could blame you. I loved MPH, and I think that Halo would fit perfectly on the DS, but like you stated, Halo is the bread and butter of the X-Box.

Mainman, anyone could make up a rom of that with enough time. And carterman, I'm pretty sure that Bungie owns the IP for Halo as the game was originally on the Mac before Bungie became a dev for Microsoft. And even if Microsoft owned the IP for Halo, you wouldn't just be able to go around Bungie without telling them. That's like saying Nintendo could start a Metroid Prime game for the PSP without telling Retro.

Even if that video was real my #2 point would be completely true. I know that was a GBA game but the DS version would have been pretty much the same with some 3-D backdrops.
@JBGUY2K
You could be right about the Metroid comparison but IMO Metriod is a bit overrated. All I'm saying is that if Halo went to the DS expectations would kill the actual delivery.

The DS needs a decent FPS on it. Metroid's controls were terrible. My hands crampt up, and it's a shame, I like the game overall. It's just those terrible, terrible controls...

This reminds me of when I asked Jim Wornell (Localization at Nintendo, did Wario Land 1 and a few other games) if he played Resident Evil Zero on the N64 yet and he said: "Not yet, I don't think it's even in a playable state yet." To which my reply was: "Actually. It's right down the booth, that way. You'll love it."
Just because someone is supposed to know something, does not mean they do. I met Peter Main in 2000 and when I took out my Gold Zelda Edition GB Camera to take his picture, he was unaware that Nintendo of America had made a gold GB Camera.
In Craig's defence, there's an old saying that goes: "The last person to know is usually the first person they ask."
Phantasy Star Online DS? It'll come out when Nintendo finishes up their port of Soul Edge for the DS! He he.

You're probably right, but at this point I think I've developed obsessive compulsive disorder, so I doubt I'd be able to quit my deluded PSO-related gaming fantasy even if I tried.
I'm a lost cause! ;_;

Personally, i'd say Metroid is a bit underrated, but it is one of my two favorite franchises ever, it just hits the right note of puzzle solving, item grabbing adventure alongside SciFi Shooting Action
And what's this i hear about a PSO DS....?

@Aero:
Nintendo OWNS Metroid. and every variation of that game, they give the job to Retro to do it, because they are a western developer that works for Nintendo, not the other way. Nintendo could easily give it to anyone if they wanted to.
Microsoft owns Bungie so they own Halo and everything related. proof is that "Halo Zune" coming soon. AND "Halo 2 for Windows Vista Edition" The used to make games for the GB, GBA and probably were going to make for the DS but they also want to make a portable console, that's why they stopped releasing Microsoft portable games.
That was this game was going to be, but Microsoft isn't sharing the profits anymore, since they now see Nintendo as their main competitor.

AFAIK, Microsoft owns all IP that Bungie makes, so they (MS) could have farmed the DS version out to another developer -- one that has more handheld experience.

Does no one here realise that there is an 'Age of Empires' game and a 'Mech assault" for the DS already.... Both Microsoft IPs.....
It's not like MS have their own handheld console, why not make some cash off licensed games??
