DS releases for the week of June 4th

At last, the long-awaited DS browser is here, but just remember to be careful when you buy -- there are versions for both the Lite and Phat DS models, and it looks like not all online retailers have separate listings yet. Obviously, Nintendo thinks you should just buy another DS, since that seems to be the hip thing to do these days. So who's planning on celebrating this week with a little browsing?
  • Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu
  • Nintendo DS Browser
  • Planet Puzzle League
For this week's releases in the rest of the world, check out the lists behind the break.

DS releases in Europe

I was recently helping cameraman on a 12 cities in 12 days across the US speaking tour. I don't have a cell phone or a laptop but I did have my DS Lite and if I had the browser I totally could have checked my email and kept in touch with the fanboy sites.

@rustbow: I would be surprised if it does, I am pretty sure it's a hardware limitation.

So, according to Nintendo (here: http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=ZRIHM-K7C6pLPkN--ZjWFInT-vIEngbV ), the DS Browser is released TODAY. Has anyone picked it up or found it in stock at a store yet? I'd love to snag it without waiting until later this week!

@Wadely

I'm hoping for the DS Phat version to show up here:

but no luck yet. It would sure be nice if DSFanboy made a journalistic effort to actually find out when it will be available...

Dan Russell -

Both Best Buy and Fry's ads in the paper said they would have it in store tomorrow, but of course don't mention WHICH (lite or phat) edition. The box art in the Best Buy ad was of the phat version, as it is on their website, but their website doesn't list 2 versions or mention which one it is in the description, so I dunno.

I need the lite version, so I think it will be easier to get mine locally, I just don't want to wait. I'm impatient. :)

Well apparently Opera is pre-released by GameStop today too. They're saying its supporting flash and javascript, so it'd be very interesting to see how that works out (if at all) and any other differences between the UK/Japan versions and the new US version.

Also, can someone please acquire a US version of the DS browser and confirm/deny Flash support?

The only full review I've seen that wasn't a European/Japanese version of the browser was on CNET, which was posted on 3/30/07, says no Flash or Java:

just picked up the browser from best buy. i gotta say, i was pretty excited about this coming out, but now i'm a bit disaapointed. the range isn't all that great and browsing is a bit slow and navigating certain websites is difficult because of the way it gets rearranged. youtube videos, or any type of flash for that matter dont work, which was no surprise, and turning off images is a must if you plan on getting anywhere.

using the software it feels more like it should have been integrated into the ds from the start (i.e. no cartridges but included in the same way pictochat was); the way it works seems more like a novelty than anything which is why i feel that way. overall i guess it's ok if you're in a pinch, but i'm glad i only had to spend 24.99 for it thanks to some reward zone cash.

if you've already made up your mind on buying this, i would recommend either best buy, circuit city, or amazon.com when i went to gamestop to preorder they were charging 34.99 which is wayyyyy more than you should pay for this software, the other sites are only charging 29.99 which i think is still pushing it.

Youtube or not, this has got to be at least slightly more functional than my phone's browser.

If only they had an EVDO/HSDPA (depending on carrier) adapter that you could get that would double as the memory expansion....dare to dream

Wow thats amazing then. I cannot believe Opera and Nintendo wasted over 6 months since the UK release and didnt improve a damn thing.

A question for people with the US version, is the copyright on the browsers Startpage 2006 or 2007? Was just curious to see if they even bothered to update that.
