When you play DS games, do you usually listen to the music and sound effects if they're not essential to gameplay? The DS has many fine features, but its speaker is really not one of them. Still, some games manage some great music that really enhances the gaming experience ... and some don't. Give us the aural rundown -- sound, yea or nay? If yea, then do you rely on the speaker, or do you employ headphones?

(Page 2)22. I had used the speakers most of the time until I played Castlevania with the headphones on one day. It sounds WAY better, even on the cheap iPod headphones I was using.

23. I usually have the volume up. I generally take music and sound effects as part of the whole experience. Would you watch a movie with the sound down? I use headphones occasionally, but more often I rely on the built in speakers.

24. I usually have the sound turned off. People who play games in public with the sound turned up annoy the hell out of me, so I try never to do that and annoy others. If I do have the sound on, I'm either home alone, or I use headphones.

27. I'm like others here, I listen to the music when I'm not in public (which is kinda rare seeing as I DS on the go mostly) but I haven't had any complaints about the speakers or the music. I love it, gets me in the mood for gaming ;)

30. I beg to differ. The DS's speakers are not too shabby for an inexpensive handheld. Music and sounds are *ALWAYS* essential. I never turn the volume down.

31. I have to have it turned on for some games like tetris (who doesn't smile when super mario bros. 3 techno is on, seriously?). Though puzzle quest is a different story, I hate all the sound in that game. Also, the deep thump when you jump on mariokart (if you're using good headphones, mind you) is always welcome.

32. DS Lite speakers suck, so I had to always use a pair of headphones to get better sound. And yeah, I always turn the volume up + using headphones everytime I play with it

34. Was hoping someone might have the answer to the DS's really quiet earphone sound, when you're on a train or a plane. Listening to music is ok, the mp3 player I use (through M3 simply) has it's own volume that you can bump up alongside the DS slide volume. But when playing movies with Moonshell there's no such option. Any new Moonshell software available where you can do this? Or some other grovier software about for playing movies?
