A possible justification for Sonic RPG?

Level Up's N'Gai Croal has been thinking about the Bioware Sonic RPG announcement, and, like the rest of us, trying to make some kind of sense of it. Why would anyone make a Sonic RPG? Why would Bioware jump onto a ship that is not only sinking, but sinking at blast-processed speed?

Croal thinks it's because they're using Sega's franchise-- and money-- to practice making kid-friendly handheld games, so they can then make their own good ones. It makes sense-- they made a Dungeons and Dragons game, learning about fantasy RPG's, and now they're working on Dragon Age; Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic lead into Mass Effect and Jade Empire.

The good news is that all of these licensed games turned out great. That doesn't mean we're going to allow ourselves to have high hopes. We're all out of optimism for new Sonic games.

Wow, Sonic has good games, its the mainstream opinion that makes everyone else hate his games.

Mario got an RPG, that worked out fine, what makes Sonic so EFFING different?

Stop judging so early.

As I said in the previous version of this same topic:

The Sonic games were fun when it was about running around really fast. Ever since they diluted that in most of the modern installments of the series, it hasn't been as good.

Now think of the typical gameplay in an RPG. Here's a hint:
It doesn't stand for Rocket Propelled Game.

This is why many people are not too optimistic about the idea. Still, fingers crossed as always.

Wow DSFanboy writing gang, that's a whole lot of negativity.

I understand that some of the recent Sonic games have been struggling, but to be fair, the most recent Sonic game for the DS (which DSFanboy writers of all people should be aware of) was hailed as a pretty good game.

Even the Sonic game for the Wii got some positive reviews here and there.

I understand being skeptical, and I also understand a bit of dissapointment in that the game is a Sonic game as opposed to Star Wars or something. But taking out that dissapointment on a game of which we know almost nothing seems a bit...unfair.

It very well might stink. But then again, it might not. You're entitled to feel and act as you please, but...perhaps some patience might be good. Just a suggestion.
