DS Daily: More technical difficulties

What is it with the shoulder buttons lately? We've gotten several e-mails from people who say that their shoulder buttons have just suddenly stopped working. Everything else is fine, but the shoulder buttons? DOA. So how are your buttons? And have you had any other issues recently? Broken DS units make sad pandas of us all.

1. Mine broke more than a year ago so i upgraded to a lite(I think it only happens to the original style). I contacted Nintendo about it but they said it was a problem that was caused by me and that i would have to pay something like 80 dollars to get it fixed.

2. The shoulder buttons on my first DS lite were DOA. Haven't had any problems on either my original DS phat or my second DS lite.

3. My left shoulder button stopped working for a while with my original GBA. It caused me quite a few deaths while running through Metroid Fusion. I stopped playing it (the DS came out) and now it is working, good as new.

4. No problems here.
Been playing more than ever since I grabbed a few decent DS/GBA titles uber cheap at a K-Mart clearance sale.

(I've been jamming on some True Swing Golf. (3 bucks))

5. My first Lite 'R' shoulder button stopped working.
So i took it to a GAME store and since i knew the guy workin there he sneakily swapped mine over for a new one ;)
SCORE!!

6. Had my Japanese V1 Nintendo DS (phat) since December 2004, other than a few scratches on the screen and a bit of wear and tear it works perfectly still. This is why I

7. Mine are fine, however on my gameboyadvance sp, I had trouble.

8. One of the shoulder buttons on my DSL stopped working about 10 months after I bought it. Luckily my warranty was still good. Nintendo fixed it and had it back to me within a week.

9. This happened to me but when I took it apart to change the case to another color I found out the shoulder button had actually moved from the heavy use. I just pushed it back into place and it works better than when I first bought it. This happened on my lite not my phat.

10. My DSL's shoulders are loosing their normal feel.
I have a friend who has a DS phat and DSL both with shoulders that died after a fair amount of usage.

11. If your shoulder button stops working, just blow in it. All my friends have DS's, and three of theirs had shoulder buttons stop working. In each case, blowing in there fixed the problem!

12. Like Ray said, blowing usually fixes the problem for me, but it does come back.

13. I don't know what you people do to your DS, mine is from launch and is flawless.

14. I've had problems with the shoulder buttons. But I've had problems with every portable I've had from Nintendo involving the shoulder buttons. I just spray electronic contact cleaner underneath the shoulder button and click it up and down a few times or until it starts to register the button every single time. Thats what usually works for me.

15. Both shoulder buttons n my GBASP died, so I bought an original GBA, and that works just fine. My Phat DS also had an L button problem, (curse you, Metroid :D) but that went away for some strange reason. Shoulder button longevity seems to be purely random. My friend has a Phat, and both shoulder buttons are completely dead, but mine is a launch and another person's is a launch, and both our shoulder buttons work fine. It's really weird.

16. I got the hinge crack of DOOM! (ahem) on my lite but it was a first run polar. Other than that I haven't had any problems.

Posted at 1:42PM on Jun 29th 2007 by Sarah

17. My R stopped working during Metroid Prime Hunters, making the game impossible to play for my right-handedness. Later I found that it would work sometimes and not others. Now the R works fine and the L doesn't work.

I will try this blowing thing.

18. Both of my shoulders are dead. On both of my DSs.

What makes it die like that, anyway?

Posted at 3:08PM on Jun 29th 2007 by KirbyMeister

19. mine is perfect except for some kind of cookie crumb in the corner of the touchscreen

Posted at 8:31PM on Jun 29th 2007 by Pokemanic

20. Neither my Phat nor my Lite have this kind of problem. And I hope they'll stay that way.
