It's already unfortunate that all titles under the PEGI's rule must bear the rating system's unsightly standard, but Jam Sessions' cover has to also suffer this guy's contorted expression. As excited as we are about the guitar trainer, we can't believe Ubisoft would use this for its boxart. Jump past the break to compare the design with Jam Sessions' North American and Japanese covers.

Is it just my imagination, or does it look suspiciously like the outlined person is . . . servicing . . . the guy with the DS?

It's you. Whenever anyone asks that question it's always them. While the Japanese box art looks cool it needs more Samus. OK seriously unless I can read the title I wouldn't realize it's a guitar trainer.

What I want to know is this:
In what way does Jam Sessions offer players the opportunity to "sing"? It's a misleading phrase that implies that there is some vocal-recording feature on the cart, which we all know is false.
Also, I see what you mean by "servicing", and yes.... it does look that way.

Euch, that's disgusting box art. What kind of idiot puts a photo underneath an outline? Not to mention, as you've already pointed out, that it's the crappiest promotional art ever.
When I first saw this I really thought it was a bad joke. Why in the name of all that is holy did they even need new box art, isn't the North American box perfectly apt?

Ugh, GROSSSsssss.
That new box art is beyond terrible. I bought the import version of the game, and the art is amazing-looking to me. I know it's a bit esoteric for many, but the cartridge itself is not a very fun 'game.' Meaning, there is no real purpose for this software other than to have fun with a cool guitar simulator to make some music with - and the type of person who seeks that out is likely able to cope with the Japanese cover - "WHoa... A black apple - It's weird, you're sorta weird, this 'game' is weird, let's check it out!" Who needs to explain the intangible spark that image creates, right? If you need to ask what it means, well, you'll never understand - because it doesn't mean anything. It's just cool.
...But the way I see the Ubisoft packaging: "Make it look like an exciting rhythm game! Don't get weird! Show a guitar!" ...All of which might work, but it makes me disappointed that cool clever art direction loses AGAIN to HORRIBLE package design.
Whatever - I'm buying the domestic version too, because it allows 'recording' of the notes or songs you play... But it's going to be kept in the o.g. Japanese box, I'll tell you that much.
***icepulse... It probably says that because the instruction manual has the lyrics to several songs that are on the cartridge, and the accompanying chords to play with them, printed in the back, allowing you to play and sing along if you wish.
