DS Daily: Tip-sharing

Occasionally, people e-mail us looking for advice, and reader Ryan is the latest. He picked up some screen protectors and applied them without reading the instructions (tsk), and then found out that they were screen specific ... and the one on his touchscreen is meant for the top screen, and it's wreaking havoc with controller input. But that's only half the problem. The important half? He can't get it off! Since we have a similar problem -- we need to remove a worn screen protector that doesn't want to come off -- we thought we might ask for opinions and advice here, and see if anyone else has any issues that the community might be able to help with. So, having any issues? Post and let's see if we can't get 'em settled.

21. Wow, thats quite an impressive quintuple post there Pizza Pasta.

On topic: I never bothered with screen protectors because I am/was too lazy to go to Best Buy/Game Stop and buy them. That, and I neglected to buy them when I got my precious (black DS Lite)

22. Just dont do what I did. I used a knife/pin. I got some nice scratches to the edge of the screen. Hardly noticable but then again, they shouldnt have been there in the first place!

23. Anybody who suggests NOT getting a screen protector has obviously never played Elite Beat Agents and feared for the safety of their touch screen when that spinner appears.

And from what I'm given to unuderstand, Pizza Paste had a hell of a time the other night putting his on without traping hairs or air bubbles underneath.

The trick is to use scotch tape on the "adhesive" side of the protector and slowly peel it off--it takes away all dust and debris with it. It helps to perform the operation in a total vacuum. You know, outer space or somewhere like that.

24. Pizza Pasta... how the hell did you quintuple post?

25. You've made your point.

I recommend applying a new protector over the old one without wasting your time trying to remove it. I have no doubt that the correct protector over the incorrect protector with nullify the affects of the incorrect protector, thus imparting the benefit of the correct protector to you, the user. This will, without question, provide you with even more worry-free play time. Cheers mates!

26. Wha' happened? I didn't want you guys to know that badly.

27. That happened to my ds and i used scotch tape and it sucks now.

28. @The Shit

You couldn't be more wrong. There is no 'short' - the whole damn top screen ribbon came off. Thats an easy fix for anyone with a triwing screwdriver.

29. For the people that always get bubbles underneath- find a Hori brand screen protector; it goes on way easier than any other one I've tried. It just plops on perfectly, once it's lined up right--assuming the screen is clean.

And to remove it, start a corner with a piece of scotch tape. The Hori brand instructions even state this.

And seriously guys- don't use a toothpick, pin, knife, or bazooka to remove the protector. Seriously.

30. Nice to know I wasn't the only one whose DS Lite resembles the one in the picture. I fixed mine with superglue (probably because the ribbon cable didn't come off).
