It's a whole new world for Final Fantasy IV

We don't even know where to start with these latest Famitsu scans, other than to say that they look great, and no release date for the DS take on Final Fantasy IV can possibly come soon enough. From the crazy character art to the gorgeous screens, this title looks singularly fantastic. Oh, Square Enix. Even when we want to be a little irked by this remake, since we just got another FFIV not long ago, we can't -- because you know how to massage the DS engine.

Hit the jump for the scans -- it's worth the journey, if only for the outrageous take on Cecil and Kain, which looks like it was created by the bastard child of Frank Frazetta and six random dudes at Marvel. It is, uh, different. The screens, however, are undoubtedly fantastic.

If this ends up being a double or triple post, I must remind everyone that the internet hates me and plots against me every moment of my life. If not...I suppose the fact remains, but I have apparently lucked out this time.

I know, as great as it looks for a DS game I can't help but still prefer stylish 2D to rudimentary 3D. I'd imagine that this new wave of FF remakes is targeted at Japan rather than the world as a whole, anyway. The depth of their love for chibis is singular among all cultures...

Is this worth picking up for someone who has not played a FF game before FFVI? I mean I recall people saying that the story was not so great in the games before VI.

You spoony bard!

This game is classic, I have been begging for a DS version for a while, I played PS1 remake a few times, and it is easily my favorite installment in the FF series.

Speaking as someone who has not played a FF game before VI I even say YES, yes it is worth it to pick this up on DS.

Even though I haven't played FFIV (still, I know!) it feels like this mythical legend that has been retold and referenced via my friends growing up.

So, yay for DS release. Hopefully VI gets the same treatment.

I'm looking forward to this.

FFIV was hands-down the best pre-VI Final Fantasy.
It was the first to have really compelling and interesting characters, something III lacked.

Finally, a 3D DS remake of something worth remaking.

I loves me some summons!

I can't wait to get this because I have so many scenes I want to see rendered adorably:
Palom and Porom doing whatever they want!
Rydia's finding of summons!
TINY AND PIGGY AND FROGGY SPELLS! (except when that dancer does it to me... I hate that).

Augh! I can't wait - and I still can't believe I had this game, played it over and over, and then sold it because I figured I could pick it up again later (stupid adolescent me and my SNES days... I suck!)

I, too, am hoping that Square does this treatment for Final Fantasy VI... it won't be for another few years, most likely, but it'd be probably the most epic FF remake to date.

I hope they hurry the hell up. I want to cuddle my DS while it snuggles tightly around FFIV and squeel in delight like a 3 year old on acid or a cat on catnip. Hrm, the cat on catnip is probably safer.

Anyways....to get to the point....FFIV was like an integral part of my childhood. I was basically born/raised on the FF games, but FFIV and FFVII stick out as two huge parts of my life.

For the love of god, Kain was my first crush as a child. I kid you not. I had it bad for pixels before I thought little boys/girls were cute.

I am totally and utterly DYING for this game to come out.
