Unofficially announced in a 2005 issue of Game Informer, Metroid Dread was rumored to be the 2D follow-up to Metroid Fusion for the DS. Despite never actually being confirmed by Nintendo, "insiders" later claimed that the project was canceled, bludgeoning our hopes into a bloody pulp. Two years and two E3s have passed since the grapevine reports, and two titles for the series, Metroid Prime Pinball and Metroid Prime: Hunters, have been released in its stead, without so much as a single Metroid Dread screenshot to corroborate its existence.IGN, who've insisted several times over that the game is in development, noticed a nod to the mythical project in its review copy of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Scanning a particular panel with Samus Aran's visor reveals the following message: "Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion." Could Metroid Dread really be on the way, or is this just a friendly prank from Retro Studios? We'll keep photoshopping dreadlocks and rasta hats onto the bounty hunter until we find out!

HOO-RAH! Another Metroid game for my DS! I love Metroid Prime Hunters, despised Metroid Prime Pinball, and hopefully they are making Metroid Dread for real! If it's a prank, however, I'll be crushed.

i would like both the prime hunter series to have another installment on the ds and to have a new sidescrolling metroid. i guess this reference could be either way, it could be a hint that its being made, or it could just be making fun of it being cancelled, unless they clarify all we can do is wait and see

Hunters sucked, pin ball I've yet to try.
so this should be good as I've always liked the side scrolling games.

I like Metroid Prime Hunters (MPH) okay but I keep taking large breaks from the single-player mode (my sons and I have weekly fragfests using the multiplayer mode). Metroid Prime Pinball (MPP) is *SURPRISINGLY* good. I mean, I really wanted to hate MPP -- I despise electronic pinball simulations as a rule, and while some thought it was natural that a character in morph ball form was well suited to this genre, I was aghast that Nintendo would agree to relegate its pedigreed Metroid license to such a travesty. Thing is, MPP is great stuff, and I've keet coming back to it at least once a week for the last year or two -- the Metroid theme (including Samus) is very tastefully woven into the game design, the pinball "physics" are spot-on (best I've played in any game like this) and it's just plain FUN. It is the perfect pick-up-and-play-for-a-few-minutes DS game AND just happens to come with the Rumble Pak (if you're lucky).
