The idea of a download service that could offer up older portable (and maybe not-so-originally-portable?) Nintendo games for play on the DS has us so very excited that we just needed to take some time to talk about it a little more. Also, to hyperventilate. But since the daily question is just that -- a question -- and not simply us performing the dance of potential endless joy, we figured we'd ask: what would you want to download, completely (or at least mostly) untouched in some form for play on your DS? Remember, we're talking about Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles, so don't go crazy with the wishing here.
DS Daily: Revisiting the download rumor

"Lufia: The Legend Returns" and "Pokemon Trading Card Game"! I think they're not as popular as other games like Zelda, but I sure would love to relive those moments on my DS... Can't really remember other titles 'cuz most of my Game Boy Color's lifespan was spent on the various Pokemon games.. =P

I still have most all of my GB/GBA games.
What I would like to see is games that were never released in NA.

I would love to return to Gargoyle Quest at once. I also remember a game by Konami where you shot blocks at block formations on the upper screen, trying to make these formations into rectangles. What was the title? Anyway, I liked that game.

That block game from Konami was named 'Quarth'.

this rumour is stupid. nintendo should have just made the ds gba slot compatible with gb and gbc games. besides...who wants to play old colourless games when most of those games have been remade on better systems. and flash carts for the ds (this screams pirating) nintendo whould never go through with it, they should just offer these games on wii virtual console.

There's also another way, I'm not sure if it's legal in US, but it's in my country - simply get a homebrew device, a GameBoy linker to transfer the games from good ol' cartridges to a binary format and play them as much as you wish. ;)
It's not a problem getting those games off eBay for like $2 to 5$ ...

So wait, Jafar -- you think that the DS Lite should be compatible with GB and GBC games, but you also think those games are worthless? So why would they bother? Nintendo wanted to make the Lite sleek and trim, so they jettisoned the extra chip sets. Makes sense to me. Hell, Sony got rid of the PS2 chipset from newer PS3s, while keeping PS1 abilities -- tell me that doesn't make a great deal less sense.

That's easy: Alfred Chicken. Really. I loved that game. I gave it to my sister with my original Game Boy and a bunch of old games.
Oh, I also loved Warioland (Super Mario Land 3?) where you have to horde all the money you can to buy a better castle than Mario's. Good times.

Kirby's Dreamland (one and two)
Link's Awakeing (DX color version)
Final Fantasy Adventure(secret of mana part one)
Super Mario Land 2:6 Golden Coins
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
Kid Dracula (an awesome castlevania/megaman clone by konami)

I would rebuy all my gameboy games then, and become 9 years old. Konami's Skate or Die: Bad n Rad (can't get more early 90s); Revenge of the Gator has yet to be topped in the pinball genre; The Supergameboy Donkey Kong; Tetris Attack; too many to list.
I think its a great idea, as long as they don't overprice them like Virtual Console.

I've been looking all over for a copy of Metroid 2, which I've never played (I keep my SP around just for the old games). This would be great for that...

German S. hit the nail on the head. I loved my pokemon gold. I still remember how sad I was I learned I couldn't bring my monsters to Ruby and Saphire. sigh
Wait I have an even better idea. Pokemon Gold and Silver remade on wii. Think about it. they have already rendered each pokemon on Battle Revolution. And they could use the ds/wii connectivity to make them able to trade with diamond and pearl.
Just a thought.

There are many old Game Boy games I would re-buy if I could play them on the DS:
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
Wario Land 2
Wario Land 3
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (although I would prefer a Diamond/Pearl style remake)
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Metroid II: Return of Samus
Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
