One time while playing a Silent Hill game in the middle of a stormy, lightning-and-thunder-filled night, the power went out leaving me in the pitch black. So that was pretty freaky, I guess, but not really. The power goes out a lot where I'm from due to storms: Florida, so I'm used to it. Plus, I ain't afraida no ghosts!

I used to play this old PC game with my little sister called the Last Half of Darkness... really crude graphics and sound, but there was one room that had these two little vampire girls, and when we got there, my sister ran screaming from the room. I lured her back and told her I had clicked away and it was safe to come back. As soon as she sat down, I promptly reentered the room. She screamed again and started hitting me.

All of Fatal Frame 2 just creeped me out. The constant tension rise-and-release just wore me down, and I never even finished it.

I haven't been following this game at all, but I hear it's supposed to be pretty good.
I don't really have a good story of my own to share, but my friend was creeped out one night by the "GameCube" whisper on the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Demo Disk.

I can't remember the name of the game but I had these headphones on and I was playing in bed (DS) and I kept hearing scuttling under my head and I keep checking but there's nothing there. It keeps happening and I think its a cockroach crawling under or in my pillow. I take apart my sheets etc and finally realize it was a sound from the game coupled with these stereo headphones

My scariest game moment is very old school. I was playing Wolf 3d on a 486 (I was teh ish at the time) and I was at this level that kept kicking the crap out of me. I heard something over my right shoulder so I glanced out of the corner of my eye to see a german shephard staring at me from the window. Of course, at the age of 10 my scream probably startled it, so it began barking and lunging at the window. I fell out of my chair, and broke the cord for my mouse while quickly running to the other side of the house.

Resident Evil... early in the game when the crows bust through the window. Yeah, didn't touch it again for a long time after that.

Easily the most frightening moment in a game for me was the scene in Eternal Darkness when you walk into the bathroom.....

I remember when the first RESIDENT EVIL came out for PS1. I had just got it and decided I'd wait to play it until my parents went to bed so that I could use the "big TV." So I start playing the game around midnight, by 1:30 I was so freaked out that I shut it off. I tried to ease my mind by watching TV, but the video for Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy" came on. I ended up making a bunch of snacks and staying up all night. Then I played the game in the safety of sunlight.

I will say my scariest moment was playing Eternal Darkness and it said my file was Destroyed. Then I found out that was only to make you think you lost your file.
That is a game I hope they make another of be it on the Wii, DS or 360 and PS3.

Well, it wasn't super scary but I was sort of creeped out by the maze behind the kitchen in "The 7th Guest". It was that music plus the sounds of footsteps running through a puddle of water that got me. I loved everything in that game!

I was playing the original Doom when it first came out with all the lights out and my gf surprised me.
Pulled the mouse out of the PC and bent the pins all to hell.

I was playing Fatal Frame 2 in the dark while I thought the wife was sleeping on the couch. She was not and waited for the music to kick up and she grabbed me and screamed real loud. I seriously pissed myself and screamed like a little girl. She still laughs to this day about that. Damn women!

One time I was playing Eternal Darkness around 2 in the morning. At that point of the game, I hadn't experienced any of the paranoia things yet, so I was pretty freaked out when the volume of the game started rising by itself followed by the game muting itself. I originally thought it was the TV acting up, so I was messing with the TV remote hoping that my parents wouldn't wake up to all the ambient moaning and such. This was one of the many times this game freaked me out in the wee hours of the night.

The first time I bought Silent Hill 2 I had to trade it in because the game just freaked me out too much. It reminded me of when I'd watch horror movies as a little kid and then I'd be up all night with the blankets over my head scared.
