I had screen protection, but now I only have it on the touch screen, the top screen blew off LoZ:PH during one of the ever-so-clever microphone gimmicks, and I never could get it to stick after that.
They were kind of shady in the first place though, but I didn't really want anything with any semblance at all to permanence, so I guess that's the price I pay. I actually see better without it tough, but now the bottom seems a little dulled out, but that might just be the late model, not so bright, yellowy touch screen lite I have. Wow, long post, stop.

From the moment I got it, I put screen protectors on both sceens. I was glad I did. Some games can be punishing to the bottom screen (seen a couple of DS badly hurt by Pac Man Pac 'n Roll). I realise the plastic from the screen protector might not be as good as the one used on the DS itself, but after many hours of play the protector is a bit scratched up.
I do keep my DS rather clean (DS Lite Onyx) Otherwise the fingerprints get harder to remove later.

Every piece of kit I own gets some sort of protection, usually just a screen protector. My DS Lite has a clear plastic shell and Hori screen protectors. Hori makes the best screen protectors I've used, and all for a pretty good price.

I bought screen protectors and they were on before I ever turned on my DS. I've seen too many plastic- screened PDAs that never had screen protectors and were barely readable to do otherwise. I'll probably replace mine every few months, just like I do on my PDA.
I wipe down my DS when I'm done playing it. The crimson is really bad about showing fingerprints... I almost wish I had a white unit.

I got this delightful Hori thing from Target to put on my new crimson/black DS. Not only does it have top and bottom screen protectors, but also a protector for the top of the unit and the button areas. I took the button-area covers off because it looked hella tacky, but the cover preventing my lovely red surface from scratches is still kicking it on my DS, invisibly.

I've had my DS lite for a over a year without screen protectors and there isn't even a scratch, but recently I noticed the little DS lite you can play is Target or Walmart and freaked a bit and want to get one, but I don't want to get crap. These are my criteria:
1. Nothing permanent. I want no sticky residue or (gasp!) not be able to get it off.
2. No bubbles, those suck.
3. No fuzzy screen, I want to be able to see the darn games.
4. Decent enough that it doesn't fall off every other day.
Any suggestions anyone? Or should I just go without, I mean it was made to touch with a stylus (i hope so) in the first place and I haven't marked it up yet...

I had one, but my 2 yr old loves the Super Mario Mini games, and she made a spot that was starting to rub off. So I took it off. I really need a new one, but funds are going to games now...lol

I've been using a set of Hori protectors too. After a few months, it was getting some dust and smudge build-up, so I wiped the protectors off with a soft cloth and they are like new. The protectors make the touch screen a little less sensitive, but it helps for repetitve motions, like the wheels in Elite Beat Agents or the Daily Mode in Picross.

The default DS stylus has never scratched my screen (because I keep it clean with lens cloths), therefore, no, I will never use a screen protector.
The people complaining about bubbles, though, you have to just stick one side of it then use a plastic card to drag it across. That's kinda how they've worked since forever, just like any other vinyl window decal, as well.

A friend of mine, Day 2 of owning her DS, got a crumb under the stylus tip and put one long scratch across her unprotected screen. I yelled at her for a week.
It's just not worth it, people. I find Hori filters work best. (Funny thing, another friend recently sent her DS in for hinge repair, and when it came back the techies had removed her Hori filters and placed them in a plastic bag labelled "unlicensed accessories." Yet the Hori packaging does carry the Nintendo seal. What's up with that?)
Craig: Those bubbles were likely dust particles. Take a length of Scotch tape and carefully apply it to the filter's underside, then pull it up. Do it again and again down the whole length of the filter. This will remove the dust particles and allow you to apply the filter bubble-free.

I ordered a set of Hori-brand screen protectors 2 years ago when I first got my DS, and they're still great.
Problem is it was only yesterday I managed to tear the bottom screen's protector during a very intense round of 'Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan' (I didn't notice that there was something stuck to the stylus, it seems...)- so it looks like I'm gonna need some new ones.
As for fingerprints; I'll never let them build up, they're wipied off as soon as possible. Anyone else ever notice the stylus can feel weird/gritty on a fingerprint-heavy screen?

I got a set of screen protectors, the problem IS when I decided to take them off, the top screen one left residue around the border, which is pretty ugly and annoying. Since I have a Phat, I don't have to worry about fingerprints! The one nice thing about the Phat - it's built like a freaking tank!

I put screen protectors on mine right away. They were cheap, crappy flimsy things that scratched with every touch (and they were even endorsed by Ninty).
Then, my husband got some Hori protectors from Target (seemingly the only place to carry them in our area. Game Shoppes are stingy and only sell Game Shoppe specific protectors which is Bogus) My husband ended up taking those protectors off, complaining of desensitivity.
That didnt stop me from getting a set myself, to replace the crappy scratchy ones. Hori is awesome. No residue, are reusable, washable, and bubbles are not a problem.
I had one bubble that I decided to leave alone and it went away on its own. Amazing.
As for fingerprints, I clean my infrequently. I have a pink ds lite and I wash my hands prior to play and of course I still get prints on it, but I clean 'em off as needed.
