DS Daily: Screen safety

Alright, spill: are you using screen protectors, or do you like taking risks? It took me a while to get around to getting a set when I got my (omgsoawesome) Crimson and Black Lite, and every time the DS was turned on, it was like an exercise in terror. But now all is safe and grand and a shiny new level of safety has been installed. Of course, then it led to another train of thought ... in this house, that screen (or rather, the shield) gets cleaned often. Just a rubdown with a soft cloth, to be sure, but a dirty DS is just not allowed. Are you vigilant, or do you let the fingerprints pile up?

No protection for the top screen.. the clamshell design is enough protection for that.

But I use NuShields (http://www.nushield.com/) for my touch screen. They're a company that makes protectors for just about every device, and their DS and DS Lite shields are EXCELLENT. Installation can be a bit tricky, but once they're on you don't even notice them and they last a long time (plus you get them in packs of 3, so you're set for a VERY long time).

This article made me want to pick up and clean my DS. Thanks, DS Fanboy!

Elite Beat Agents was one of the first games I ever played, so that screen protector went on quick and in a hurry. I haven't bothered with one on the top screen, though.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Nintendo actually does not like screen protectors and that they can actually void the touch screen's lifetime warranty (Nintendo has actually made that screen much, much tougher than the industry standard for similar devices). I can't remember where I read it though.

Honestly, I've never really liked the things at all. They tend to be either cheaply made or tricky to put on and there's always something that gets trapped under them and ruins the screen anyway. Or you get bubbles... I hate the bubbles.

And most of the protectors that get the Nintendo seal, to indicate they're official, get the seal simply because they company that sells them plopped down the cash in order to tack that seal on to ever accessory that they produce, it's not Nintendo who's saying they're kosher.

@kevin, back at #4 -- I don't really have fingerprint problems with my crimson! I wonder if there are differences in paint among the units or something. I mean, I can see faint marks if I don't clean it, but it's not -bad- at all.

Screen protectors and soft cloths. This is very precious purchase for me. (Oh, and I use stylus pens for better grip)

I got some screen protectors with an accessory pack for my Phat... I put it on and immediately changed my mind cos it looked crap.

After years of heavy but careful use (including games like EBA), my touchscreen is still in pretty much perfect condition.

I occasionally wipe it with a sleeve/bit of sheet to remove prints and surface stroke marks.

I might get one of these "Hori" ones if/when i get a lite...

I never had one for my original DS. And I regret it, after playing games like Ouendan, Pokemon Ranger, Elite Beat Agents, and Ouendan 2...the screen has scratches on it. However, I got a Pokémon Dialga & Palkia DS Lite back in May, and I put a Hori Screen Protector on it. Works great :D

A protector on the touch screen is pretty much essential, playing games like Ouendan is a sure fire way of scratching up the screen, and a screen protector is a lot easier to replace (even if it will pick up marks easier than the screen on its own would do)

The top screen I am not worried about, it is either in use (where you won't really have anything touching/covering it) or the DS is closed and both screens are hidden from damage.

I got the Hori protectors, so have one for each screen, the bottom one in the DS, the top one on my camera instead (I needed to cut it down slightly, but not it keeps the much more 'at risk' screen of my camera safe)

I like to play it safe [since I keep and play all my systems for a long time]. I went to the frys website and bought like 4 packs of screen protectors. I don't know if you're talking about finger prints on the outside of the DS, but i got one of those nerf armor things that fits on and covers the entire outside of my DS so i can't even see finger prints [although before that, even though my DS is black, there were loads of finger prints]

I was readjusting my DS screen protectors today, in fact, and I realized that I better get new ones in time for Mario Party DS.
