I think its obvious they used 3d renders so that one will look at the box and exclaim ' wow, that must be what the people look like in-game!'
I dont really think the animals have been pulled off that well either tbh, look at that rabbit, its feet look like satan claws D:

The dog and especially the rabbit look CG to me; the other animals are too small to tell, but it's likely they're CG as well.
