Don't feel bad -- everyone does it. Sometimes, we all buy a game, and then later, kinda wish we hadn't. The reasons are many: no time for it, so it sits on the shelf and collects dust while you play other games, or maybe a friend recommended it and you took a chance (or a blog, perhaps?), or maybe it just looked a heck of a lot better than it actually was. Whatever the reason, are there any DS games you regret buying this year?

Planet Puzzle League is without a doubt, hands down, my worst gaming purchase ever. It got so old, so unbelievably fast.
And Jam Sessions is, sadly, on this list. It's not that I was expecting a guitar game, it's that I wanted a guitar sim and while that is what I got, the d-pad sucks for doing chords quickly. I wish they'd come up with something better. *grumbles*

You know, I own and love Tetris DS, Meteos and Picross, and was thinking about picking up Planet Puzzle League. That was the exact concern I had, whether it got old quickly, and I still haven't bothered to pick up a copy.

Phantom Hourglass. Parts of it were great (boss fights), but so much of the game is spent walking, sailing or stealthing. What happened to slaying monsters? Oh, I'm also tired of dungeon's puzzle being solved by the item found in said dungeon. It's not a puzzle if they hand you the solution every time. It was like one big tutorial for each new weapon, then the game promptly ended. I'm tired of the whole Zelda formula, and probably won't bother with any more.

It won't let me reply to the comment you left on mine, so I'll just reply here --
Do not buy PPL. I am a diehard Tetris girl and have been since I was two years old. When Tetris DS came out, I about died of glee. I'd heard PPL was similar with a good puzzle game, and was so unbelievably disappointed it's not even funny. Now I wish I'd spent my money on something better like Meteos, which I've wanted for what feels like eons.
Stupid me. Learn from my mistakes -- Do not buy it. It gets so old so fast and it makes baby Jesus cry.

I'm surprised how many people have said "Pokemon"! I've only gotten into it recently, so maybe I've just not had PokeBurnout yet. (Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis also surprises me, as I've just got the GBA game and it's really enjoyable!)
I really can't think of a game that I regret purchasing this year (I didn't do a lot of buying). Neither SimCity DS or Contact were exactly what I was expecting, but I don't think I regret purchasing either. I was a bit disappointed when I first put Contact in, but I've really started to enjoy it now.

Another game I thought about getting, then promptly dismissed. Good to hear I didn't miss much.

Aw, that's too bad- I was thinking of picking this one up. Did it just not live up to the hype?

I think it was just a bad attempt at copying Mertroid. If you really want it, you can buy it at gamestop for $10 [if they still even sell it]. One of the thing I hated the most were the controls; they made the game really hard when you had to move fast or jump somewhere really quick.

Master Jin Jin's IQ Challenge has to be the worst game of the year and so I must have a low IQ for buying it. I generally like the brain training games - even the Beta and Gamma titles. Although Brain Age and Brain Age 2 are the best, I do like to play the rest. At once, the Jin Jin game is non-sensical, quirky, bug-ridden, and riddled with horrible puns and bad music. How such a poor piece of software ever saw the light of day is a total mystery to me. Who is Master Jin Jin anyway? At least Brain Age has a real PhD, not a fake "Master". I feel better for admitting my transgression in buying the game. Sigh...

i only bought my DS this year. so i'm not sure if a few of these games came out before..
i'd have to say that Polarium is my only "regretted purchase" - the puzzles weren't challenging enough, but the endless mode was WAAAAAY too hard. (maybe it would help if i got a brand new touchscreen for my DS - it's lost sensitivity in some areas)
i don't really regret buying either of these, but both Brothers in Arms and Call of Duty 4 were too short. they may have replay value some day, but for now, they're just sitting there.
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground was a lot of fun, but there are so many other games I'd rather play.

Sim City DS. It's not horrible, I just wanted Sim City. I might as well go get an Action Replay and play my SNES SIm City ROM on it...

Jam Sessions, because I mistakenly thought it was an actual game, rather than what it was, which I didn't think it did well anyway.

and
Jam Sessions.
Two great ideas, fine games... but not enjoyable for me.

Rhythm and Notes broke my little heart, stole my credit cards, shacked up with my wife, burned down the farm and ate my last slice of pie.
Not to mention the game was tripe.

The fanboys are going to kill me for this:
Final Fantasy III and Metroid Prime: Hunters, I traded them in for Elite Beat Agents.
Not that they were particulary bad, they just weren't as good as I had anticipated.

I hear ya on Metroid Prime Hunters. Love the Metroid series, but I bought and played that game for about 40 minutes the day it came out, and didn't touch it again for over 14 months... finally beat the story mode and eventually enjoyed it a bit, but it was pretty blah and the hand-cramping control scheme was really disappointing.
