It doesn't really irk us that this Mario/Metroid mélange is at least eight minutes too long, because it manages to confirm a sneaking suspicion that we've held for some time now: that there is a niche between 2D Mario and 2D Metroid games, just aching to be filled. We knew it!

It IS a rom hack. It's called Extra Mario Bros., and a friend told me, because I'm not into that sort of thing that it's a total fucking blast, though you do get lost at some points.

Mega Man was essentially the basic shooting gameplay of Metroid with the linearity of Mario. This here is pretty much the opposite of that; relatively open like Metroid, but with Mario physics and platforming.

I've honestly been wondering when Nintendo is going to do a mash up single player game. A fighter like smash is all well and good, but that's what everyone does for a mash up game.
