Seeking to convert his girlfriend, Rachel, into a handheld gamer, DS Fanboy reader Shawn wrapped this custom-painted Nintendo DS and put it under their Christmas tree along with copies of Nintendogs, Cooking Mama, New York Times Crosswords, and My Word Coach.
In order to achieve that smooth shine, the system was disassembled, sanded, primed, spray painted, then finished with a high gloss clear coat. Shawn chose the metallic sparkling purple, the color of royalty, because it's his girlfriend's favorite color. You can follow the project's progress and see more photos of the painted DS on Shawn's Flickr set.

Ah! you people suck for voting me down. But it's true, pu$$y rules the world. He wouldn't have done it, if he wasn't getting any ass.
Whatever!

Companies like Colorware might not customize the DS, but this guy's work looks as good as theirs. If she appreciates his talent and effort as much as he appreciates her, then that couple is pure purple (the color that symbolizes passion in China).
One question: Don't niche companies make metallic shells for the NDS/NDSL? If so, are those not an option for people who want a glittery custom color but lack the skill for a flawless paint job?

to Destroy All Females: I got a good laugh. I know what you mean. It seems like guys do most things for woman. I wanted her to appreciate gaming more. She plays several DS games now as well as wii games. she has been converted!
I looked at doing a custom paint job on a lite... i am not sure how to get that clear shell of without destroying it...
I think that this is something that Colorware would do if you sent it to them. I don't know why they wouldn't/couldn't. I have seen aftermarket cases that will let you trick out your DS lite. And actually a replacement shell would be a good place to start to modify a lite. that way you can keep playing your DS while you work on your new colors...
Thanks to everyone for their comments.

If my husband could do this to my lite, let's just say that his life would suddenly be turned into a much more entertaining version of Debbie Does Dallas.
Honestly, I'd appreciate it in lite or phat, but the lite would be better for me.
Shawn, good job on the conversion. Your gal is lucky.
