Maybe if you got somebody to crank this for you while you played to keep the battery alive, and you also didn't mind the screeching noise that came with it, it'd be useful ... right?
No, we didn't think so either.

Wait... the Wii is un-green? I thought it was supposed to be all super efficient when it came to power.

"...Initial reports show the Wii using about 10 watts of power in standby mode, five times that of the XBOX 360 and ten times EU recommendations...."

if they could increase the power/crank ratio, I could see this as pretty useful on camping trips (the real thing, not the lazy pack a tent and drive to the park thing). Even more useful if you couple it with a R4 and instead of lugging cartridges around in the woods.
too bad this thing is a POS though, cause I would actually buy it if its decent.

Too much cranking makes you go blind.

This looks pretty useful where electricity is difficult to find, like on trips in remote places.
The crank could be more elegant, though, and easier to use.

...I believe there is surely a banshee haunting your DS accessory. Perhaps try exorcising it.

I love this thing. If anyone wants to be green this is the best way to do it, not using any power but the one you grind out yourself ^_^.
Serioulsy though, it's not a bad idea. Just think of those people in California right now who don't have power due to the storm (2 days so far). I would have exhausted my DS battery in that time easily...and with something like this could spend time talking to my friends or family while cranking away.
I guess that a generator would be better though...one you could crank still but plug stuff into.
Another brilliant idea would be to get tubby kids a leg crank one that operates like a bicycle :p.

This reminds me of the alternative power sources the OLPC group was researching (or is that still researching). The consensus seemed to be that hand power wasn't a good idea because A. your hands don't have the strongest muscles, and B. One handed computing sucks. The solution was a foot powered device which imo would work much better in both situations.
