When YouTube user efeffewgre assembled the above compilation, he could have just included Metal Gear Solid music. Seriously, that would have been enough for us to watch this from beginning to end.
Instead though, he went the extra mile, by also including a detailed look at the power struggle in Japan between Nintendo and Sony since 1996. And he did it in pie charts. We love pie charts, we love Metal Gear Solid music, and we love watching how the red of Nintendo has slowly consumed the blue of Sony over the last dozen years. Ladies and gentlemen, this is our YouTube clip of 2008 so far.

In pie chart form the domination is almost scary!! I knew the jump in DS sales from 05 to 06 was big but the pie chart really shows how awesome it was. Printing money is right.

My question is... Where's Microsoft. I expect that this is Japaneses sales, but even with poor sales in that area, they did sell some. I just don't get how Microsoft got booted off the chart, when I heard that sales of the 360 are increasing there. Ace Combat is big seller for the 360 currently from what I've read, so I wouldn't dismiss Microsoft yet. But what do I know?

The 360 isn't on the chart because the sales. Even though they didn sell som it didn't cover more then 0.049% which is how much it would take to get on the chart, the sales are just too low there.

GBA was the bulk of Nintendo during N64 and GCN eh? Wii has nearly overtaken ALL Sony hardware.

Funny how Sony and nVidia (who made the PS3's GPU) all state that graphics are the most important factor in a game system, yet at the same time, the Wii literally kicked the living crap out of the PS3. Pure unadulterated irony.

Why are guys always dissing sony? I'm both a Nintendofanboy and a Sonyfanboy (yes you can be both). You should leave all that console war stuff to all those other fanboys. This site is better than that!

Watching all that market share slip away from Sega is like being stabbed repeatedly with a hot fireplace poker.
Also, is it me or is that video EXTREMELY poorly synched? I'd mention the horrible artifacting too, but when you're posting videos on YouTube, it goes with the territory. People need to start considering Revver as an alternative... its videos look far, far better.

I've got to agree.
As much as I've always loved Nintendo (and even Sony for PS1) it was really hard to see Sega be reduced to just another Atari. Saturn and Dreamcast are two of my favorite systems, it's just too bad there isn't enough room(or money) for everyone.
I wish Microsoft had stuck to things they knew, as their products interest me very little(just my opinion), and Sega had a lot to offer, but terrible marketing.

They should have watched out for those spiked cherries, they make you crazy. Mr. Pacman got greedy going after those cherries and ended up bitting into the wrong one.

Actully...it seemed to me like Nintendo is a burgeoning Pacman that slowly grows until it devours it's enemy whole and then coughs up the pieces.

There was nothing slow about that, and it wasn't Nintendo that bashed Sony in the head, it was all the DS, heck, the DS swallowed Nintendo's other products as well.
I for one welcome our new portable overlords (look at the PSP's percentages, too, they're pretty darn high).
