Above, you can see the mobile version on the left, with the DS game, which has no firm release date as yet, on the right. Clearly, not much is required for an update to the gameplay ... the colors are a little more lush, and everything is a little brighter, but otherwise, it looks like Front Mission. And while we're still waiting for a few other titles in the franchise (like Front Mission 5!), that really can't be a bad thing.

The extensive discussion around remakes is beginning to bother me. I think that this is beginning to squelch out development and/or promotion of original properties. There is more talent at Square and other developers than to keep putting a new dress on the same old pig. I'm not going to knock the quality of their remakes, but I'd like to see some new properties come out. It's not that some of them haven't been great, but they are just beginning to seem stale to me.

Jared: FM2089 is more a port than a remake; the original games were made for mobile phones.
Hope this gets localized. We don't get nearly enough Front Mission!

I can appreciate that. And I'm sure this is a great game. My point isn't at this game but the whole port/remake issue we've seen with the Wii/DS. I'll probably even check out this game out. I'm just eager to see something totally new. I probably should've shoe-horned this in on a report of a crappy port/remake, but the psychological final-straw hit me today as I read this post.

I used to be a huge fan of this series. My favorite srpgs. I still love FM 2nd to this day. They lost me at the kiddie lameness of 3 and I heard 4 wasn't so hot either.But I also hear that 5 is a return to the old glory. Why did FM1 on the ds have no online? This is starting to get old SquareEnix. If your going to remake an old SFC game, then do it right by giving us extra features. FM without online battles are cheap and lame at this point. I'll go back to AdvanceWars and shutup now. A simple port is half assed.
