DS Daily: Is color enough to justify a second DS?

Would you ever buy a second DS, solely because you like the color? It sounds silly, but time and again this blogger has come close to shelling out for one of those Enamel Blue Lites that appeared exclusively in Japan, only to back down at the last minute. It may sound like a fairly ridiculous reason to purchase a second version of any gaming system, but then gamers aren't always rational people, and DSes are desirable and just about cheap enough to justify impulse purchases.

Of course, some of you might well be purchasing a second DS in the very near future, as the cobalt blue DS Lite hits U.S. stores today. If you are, tell us about it!

I got my second DS after my first launch day white DS finally completely broke and it was past the warranty. I asked for it for my birthday and got the crimson black DS bundle when it was being phased out in favor of said system sold alone.

If my black DS Lite breaks, then I'll buy (or get as a b-day present) a cobalt-black DS, or the Crimson one. Or, hopefully they'll have a fully crimson DS Lite by the time mine bites the dust. That'd be awesome.

I got an ice blue ds just for the color a little while after I got my onyx ds lite.

I'm always considering buying one or two more just for the color, primarily the enamel navy.

I've thought about buying a new system just for the color, but common sense always prevailed in the end. That said, I did somehow end up with two DSes, and it's actually pretty nice since I can switch from one to the other when the battery dies.

I've never bought a second DS Lite for the color, but I do actually own four DS gaming systems. (Two Lites, two Phats). It's a long story. I won the fourth one in the Stacker game where you stack the squares up to the "Big Prize" bar and actually managed to do it. That was a good day. :)

I just got my very first DS today - the new cobalt/black. (I'm in Canada, so yes they are available here.) It's nice-looking, although the crimson/black is maybe nicer. But I don't know if we'll see any more crimson/blacks. They seem to be sold out everywhere.

I'm going to buy one. My White one is getting old (my cousin spilled water on it and decided the best course of action to repair it would be to put in the oven at a very high temperature). My white one still operates, but a new color pushes me over the edge to wanting one where everything isn't covered in water splotches

Well, if Nintendo would make either of these: http://oranse.kapsi.fi/ods.jpg , I wouldn't even have the time to think before I'd be at the store.

I hate buying extra systems (it took playing my friend's Lite to push me into buying one a couple days after they came out), but I would gladly plop down the money for either of those, preferably the black one with the orange line and DS Logo. Those are slick as heck~

My god!, an Orange DS!, Orange is my favorite color!, if they make that one (wich I think won't happen) I'll definetely buy it!

I had the White DS at launch, and bought the Zelda Golden one because I liked it, if they make an orange one, it would mean 2 more DSes just because of the color =)

Haha, a color isn't enough to get me to buy a second, but my Onyx DS Lite has a stupid issue with the shoulder buttons (mostly L) which makes playing FPSs impossible, and I've sent it in for repairs twice to no avail, and now the one year warranty is up so I'm thinking of trading it in for a Cobalt at gamestop or something. I could probably get more for it on ebay, but I don't want to go through the hassle and have the money to buy a new one anyway.

I really wish they would stop this two-tone BS and just give us the Enamel Navy though, it's such a tease to give us this half-blue one. I'm not sure if I really like Cobalt, but I'll probably get one anyway.

I've been tempted for a long time to get a pink DS Lite, but it's been out for a while and I haven't done it -- even though my white Lite has a cracked hinge and a dead pixel. So I guess for me color is not enough to justify a second DS -- though back in the day when I had a phat I bought a second phat in Japan because they had pink ones (that was before pink was available in the US). I gave the first phat to a friend as a birthday present, along with a copy of Nintendogs. But I was feeling rich then. (I *wasn't* rich, mind you ... :-)
