If so, share your thoughts with us. What PSP games would benefit from the DS's features, like its dual screens and touchscreen? And what DS games would be better on UMDs, with better graphics and more space for things like elaborate cutscenes?

i think Patapon would work equally well on the ds as it does on the psp
but currently I'd rather it stayed a psp exclusive.

I was discussing with a friend the other day on what would make the ideal handheld platform. Combining the PSP's ability to store data aside from save files would be very nice. It was envisioned as a way to get game expansions and exclusive content for the games. Of course, this requires support from developers and is idealistic at best. However, the DS stands out because of the lack of loading times and the dual screens. The DS fills all my handheld gaming needs aside from two games... Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. These two games have me considering buying a PSP.

honestly i was a little dissapointed by War of the Lions. it's still a good game, and if you played and enjoyed the original, WotL is the definitive version. but it wasn't as good as all of the reviews made it out to be imo. i prefer more streamlined strategy games like Jeanne D'Arc or FFTA-and to answer the topic, the former would probably work well on the DS.

A game like Loco Roco would work well on the DS, as for vice versa I only own 3 DS games (Zelda, Maio Kart, and Super Mario) I don't know what DS game would work on the PSP.

Hey. I had a DS since launch- so I have a good sized collection (20 or so games). If I could name 5 gaves you should pick up that you don't have, they would be:
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time,
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow,
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin,
Metroid Prime Hunters,
and, Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis.
Those games are fantastic.

I think that Mario Kart, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, Newe Super Mario Bros, Kirby Squeek Squad, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and Final Fantasy 3 would work on the PSP.
I love them on the DS- but they could be ported.

First off, let me apologize for this post. I have gotten my DS and a PSP both in '08, so I am a relative noob to both... though I had my DS for about 3-4 weeks before I bit the bullet and picked up a PSP. Considering my newbie status, I am not as familiar with the PSP lineup, although though my long research (due to boring work days) I feel more confident in what the DS offers. The other product resulting from acquiring both systems relatively recently is that the strong points and weak points to both are fresh on my mind, and I've been looking for a platform to hash some of them out.
Each system has a distinct feel and the games slot nicely into that feel without too much crossover. Generally the DS strengths (a rich variety of RPGs, the standby series of Mario) and the PSP strengths (fantastic graphics, high octane titles like Need for Speed, Grand Theft Auto, etc) don't really intersect much. I think the PSP's ability to mimic a console makes it less relevant to gaming because that makes it more of a PS2-port dumping ground with few truly original titles. The DS's relatively poor visuals and such make it more prone to innovative/creative titles.
The one place where the PSP has the edge is a higher standard of mediocrity. It is not plagued by the 'z' titles, or the deluge of brain age-esque titles.
But more in line with the original question, games like Patapon and LocoRoco seem like they'd fit in well with the DS's catalog (although I say that without ever having played them), as well as Jeanne D'Arc (one of the few vaguely intriguing PSP RPGs). Going the opposite way, the only thing I can think of is Burnout Legends, which got poor reviews on the DS (which I haven't played on the DS, but I would guess the hardware just wasn't up to the speed the Burnout series requires), but is pretty great on the PSP (which I have played).
(One thing I would love to see would be Resident Evil 4 on PSP... *drool*)

How to fix your PSP nubbiness: Downgrade your PSP to a custom firmware, and emulate PS1 games. You should get a 4 GB memory stick, but don't buy it on eBay as they are almost always fakes.

Ironically I think the PSP has a MUCH stronger RPG line-up. In the USA you have Jeanne D'Arc, which is one of the best SRPGs i've played in a while.. and the ports of Final Fantasy 1, 2, and Tactics. Disgea. Tales Of The World, Brave Story, Valkarye Profile Lenneth Monster hunter 2 and Valhalla Knights. Then look at the import scene, you've got Breath Of Fire 3 and Tales of Destiny ports.. and Finally you have upcoming games like Crisis Core: FF7, and the Star Ocean ports, as well as another Tales game that hopefully will hit america.
As for PSP games that make better DS games... Puzzle Quest was better on DS. So are CCGs like Naruto.

ds must do better said...
Well, my DS has not been used in over a year. So it really is in need of a major overhall.
It's all mario and yoshi and Kirby. Not enough mature games. The graphics are pitiful.
And don't bring up sales, for as everybody knows McDonalds is the worlds biggest restuarant.

i would have to say the DS isnt for everyone.....like you for example .....not trying to start a flame war butit just isnt for everyone......
as for the more mature games
1-CONTRA 4
2-RE1
3-Dementium
4-Assasin's creed
and im not just going by M rating but by capacity......substance
any
I also own a PSP and it's just not for me.....i like all the strong nintendo games....not a fan of taking a risk when i buy a game.........the DS is my one true love......
Yes the PSP Looks good but there just isnt much worth playing......for me that is
it had a way better Internet browser but i have a laptop so....MEH.......
My DS as of today is now a wifi phone and I loaded up an FTP server program......MP3 player, e-book reader, ETC.
I got a R4 as an early birthday present for the sole purpose of getting these programs NOT piracy.........
anyway closing statement

Ah yes, not enough "mature" games. Is that based purely on the bright graphics and non-existent blood in lots of Nintendo's games? If so, then you probably should just stick with a 360.
However, if you're actually matue enough to recognize that games CAN be mature without gallons of blood and a nonexistent/ shallow plotline (GoW) then try out any of the DS' strategy games, such as Advance Wars Days of Ruin, or the new Fire Emblem game that's coming out. But if you can't get over yourself and appreciate games that are fun, despite their candy coating, then it's no ones loss but your own.
Back to the topic. I really don't care. The dS can handle regualr games and touch screen games, so almost anything could be taken off of the PSP and put onto the DS, albeit with slightly worse graphics. The PSP can't handle ANY shooter games because of that stupid little nub, but the DS can. Ds also wins when ti coems to RTS' and TBS', platformers, racers (Burnout and Grand Turismo are decent, but Mario Kart is actually FUN), puzzle games...It can do ANYTHING. PSP is just a good multimedia device.

I apologize if this may offend you, but you sound like a teenager going through puberty who feels the only way to fit in with the cool kids on the block is to play only M rated games and pretend everything else is thrash.
"It's all Mario and Yoshi and Kirby"
Dude, you obviously don't know what you're talking about, there's too many highly acclaimed games on the DS for me to list them here and disprove your statement. I would say the PSP full of nothing but PS2 ports, but I'd be lying.
Next time you come on by, don't come off as a blind little kid. Get your facts straight.

I'm sorry, Mario Kart is NOT fun.. Mario Kart hasn't been fun since the SNES... Which i can play on my PSP. Now-a-days it's all snakeing and stupid crap like that. Stupid AI that seems to be winning from luck, not actual skill, since if you mess up ONCE you lose the match. So far the most fun handheld racing game I've played is Ridge Racer on PSP.. don't even mention the RR-DS... That game is an insult to the the entire series.
But.. OH YEAH, fun is Subjective. So, i'm pretty entertained by Harvey Birdman, Ratchet And Clank, and Syphon Filter. And none of those games would work on the DS, same with Crisis Core, and God Of War. Add on to that, there are Downloadable games and demos, PS1 games to get on the Playstation Store. And to the guy with the R4... uhm.. I can do all of the same thing.

The DS actually has more memory potential then the UMD because the games are stored on lil flash carts. Most DS games only run in size from 30 to 70 megs. Slam a lil 1GB flash memory in a game and make something epic, with lots of downloadable content!

A 1GB game would be cost prohibitive to mass produce on even generic SD media, let alone the proprietary one the DS uses. It's not even clear whether those DS cards could be made in 1GB+ capacities. Downloadable content could be more feasible - I'm unsure why developers haven't done more with that.
Theoretically, we could also see higher capacity UMD or 2GB+ downloadable games for the PSP given the lower cost of 2GB and 4GB Memory Sticks.
However, as it stands and as it's almost certainly likely to continue, the PSP storage capacity is simply much greater than the DS. It doesn't keep the DS from having good games and it doesn't mean the DS is somehow inherently inferior. There's no need to generate obfuscation around theoretical 'flash capacity'.

I never understood why Capcom put Mega Man Powered Up out on the PSP. Mega Man's glory days were on Nintendo's systems, and this was a remake of the first game. And it was done up all cute. Seemed like it would work on the DS in my opinion, then maybe we might have seen cute remakes of Mega Man II and III.

I agree,we would probably have Mega Man Powered Up 2 & 3 if they were released on DS...it's a shame really. But hey, we have the Advent games as well as the gba Battle Networks, & X series.
