You can play web based versions of this boardgame at www.jijbent.nl (Dutch only) and www.gametableonline.com. I find the game rather simplistic and luck based, certainly not a "brainteaser". Maybe the "rule customisations" add enough spark to the mix but I doubt it. So many better board games out there which would rock on the DS, sigh.
Basically you roll a dice during your turn, you can then move one of your hedgehogs one space vertically. Finally you have to move one hedgehog (your own or another colour) forward in the lane whose number was rolled. You can move hedgehogs on top of other hedgehogs who then become trapped until they're at the top again. The dark spaces are holes you can fall in and only get out of when all other hedgehogs have passed you by. First to get three hedgehogs to the other side wins. That's it.

And btw, the original boardgame (which already had the hedgehog theme) dates from 1990, so it actually predates Sonic by about a year.
