It's been quite some time since we've heard from Red Fly Studios' fungal platformer Mushroom Men. We're quite happy to see them showing their caps again! A new trailer has been released, revealing an intriguing side-scroller starring small mushroom guys in the human world -- with a slightly spooky vibe added.
There's an element of environmental interactivity on display that we're interested in -- things like the house of cards suggest that there's more to do than just jump and shoot. Even the jumping and shooting have more going on, in the form of an item-creation engine.
It's not every day that a 2.5d platformer comes along using original characters. We kind of wish it was.
[Update: this got posted on Wii Fanboy by mistake! Take it to mean that we think the game looks really good. And also that IGN posted it on their Wii page.]

Thats the DS version, I'm pretty sure the Wii version is not a 2.5d sidescroller.

The game looks fairly good to me but what on earth is wrong with this video? I mean it says HD trailer... then all I can see is a potage stamp that shows screens themselves the size of a postage stamp showing grainy, way to dark, pixelated footage. Sorry but this is not the way you make people look forward to whatever. Maybe if IGN could get over their ego and make the controls and frame a lot smaller it would be OK for an SD trailer. Please NWF posters ... use direct links or bigger videos ... pretty please? With sugar on top?

After clicking play, I had to scroll up and make sure I hadn't accidentally gone to DSFanboy, this is obviously the DS trailer not the Wii, but this is looking pretty impressive for the DS, versus the screens they had up before that looked rather boring. Looking forward to the Wii version of this and a trailer for that.

Yeah! This game looks pretty damn cool. It's different, at least, in a good way.
