Thanks to the internet and, hey, sites like this one, gaming magazines have been read the last rites on numerous occasions in recent years.This saddens us, and not just because we're nostalgic old fools. Magazines still prove useful to us on an almost daily basis. For one, we write about their contents quite a lot. And for this blogger, they make excellent bathroom reading (taking a DS on bathroom breaks is out of the question. It's unhygienic, and the DS has never mixed well with water). There's a healthy, dog-eared pile of old Edges and other assorted publications in the bathroom of Casa de Greenhough.
What did you used to read? What do you read now? And do you think gaming magazines have a bright future, or are the print dinosaurs heading for extinction?

I used to read Game Informer and occasionally EGM. Nowadays, I have a subscription to the UK magazine Edge. It's probably the best gaming magazine I've ever read, and well worth the expense.

Yeah I buy the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine, mainly because I can't browse the internet on the toilet or at the dinner table and because of the cool Nintendo-related free gifts they give out.

I read NGamer (UK version) whenever I find it (here in The Netherlands). I love the total focus on Nintendo, and the gifts, and being able to read back issues, and just the feel of paper. I go through great lengths to find issues (mainly because I am too lazy to just subscribe) and I enjoy each and every one.

The only one I buy now is Retro Gamer as it has excellent articles and gets me into games that I may have never heard of.
All the other ones I don't see the point of due to having the internet.

My girlfriend got me a subscription for Christmas and I love it, like you I see no point in contemporary game mags, since most of it is really old news by the time it hits the stands, and there rarely are any in-depth articles about the creation process. Well, except for Edge, but still not enough to validate a subscription or anything. But RG is great! Since I live in such a hole, I should be getting my March issue today or tomorrow, so, yay for RG.

Oh my! this picture takes me back so far ago. I read this Nintendo Power issue so often that I almost had committed it to memory.
Now, blogs and gaming websites sate my hunger for gaming news well enough. Moreover, I find the information on the web to be much more timely.

I still subscribe to Nintendo Power, I used to do EGM and Game Informer, but am letting those run out. I'll probably resubscribe to Nintendo Power, I just like the pretty pictures.

I get good ol' NP and EGM, but only because the latter is free. I have had some real beef with EGM over the years and would never pay for it.
There are a few more expensive mags I'd love to get, but the moniez are too much for me.

i read retro gamer......and nintendo power (i dont trust nintendo power that much but i like to see whats coming out).....also i get game informer.......but i dont ever look at it much more than flipping the pages and looking at the pictures...........it came with an edge card for gamestop

Yeah I get EGM. I like magazines, they come right to your house and they're usually cheap and good for relaxing reading in or out of the bathroom. But, I rarely pay full price for a subscription, I wait until I find a sale or they contact me about a discounted subscription rate. You can also buy a lot of magazine subscriptions on eBay for cheap.

Currently I only subscribe to EGM (thanks joystiq for my free subscription!), but i used to get Nintendo Power, and the Official Playstation Magazine (for the demo discs) I still like looking at the magazines, and sometimes (not very often) they have exclusive looks at games before the info hits the net...

In the past I never subscribed but would often read Nintendo Power, GamePro, or one of the various PlayStation magazines, depending on which systems I owned at the time.
Currently I have a Nintendo Power subscription mostly due to the "oh yeah, discounted subscription with strategy guide!" concept.

I don't read them myself, though I'll sometimes look at a magazine if a cover story catches my eye. I know a young lad with a DS and he's very into Nintendo Power and strategy guides. For me, I'll take the Internet for hints as needed and sites such as this one for news. :)

I used to buy every issue of YOUR SINCLAIR , SINCLAIR USER and C&VG . now with the advent of websites like these , i'd rather save my 6 pounds, one reason was for the cassette mounted on the cover but nowadays i can get the demos on fileshack or fileplanet etc .
