We've talked a lot about
cosplay this week, and noticed some interesting discussions in the comments. Who knew people felt so strongly about cosplay? What is it about the hobby that gets such a rise out of people on both sides? Sure, some people take it to extremes, but the same can be said for just about anything from crafting, collecting, and oh, hey --
playing games.
Have you ever done any cosplay? No, we're not talking about dressing up as Mario for Halloween when you were eight (but that raises a good question: do Halloween costumes count?). Any of your friends dabble in the hobby? Do you have a strong opinion about cosplay either way?

Why does that Cos-play article from the other day have 50+ comments?
And why are the majority of the "ogling" nature? So there are many readers but not much commenters, unless you dress some girls as Link.
That's ok though, I understand how the world works.
Regarding the question: no.

I've cosplayed as Ryoma from Prince of Tennis, which isn't a very difficult costume to put together.

I love playing and reading about games, but that's where it ends for me.

You know, a lot of cosplayers are gamers too. Commenters on these sites shouldn't be so damn judgemental.
I cosplay a bit, but only because I go to just one con a year. I'm thinking of going to other cons, and that would also give me more opportunities to cosplay :D I have a lot of other friends that cosplay and go to quite a few anime conventions. I'm thinking of going to PAX and San Diego Comic Con too.
And about the Halloween thing, some people DO cosplay XD Some like to even refer to it as "National Dressup Day".

I've cosplayed a Final Fantasy XI summoner, and I'll be Temari from Naruto at Otakon this summer... I just love making costumes, and it's fun to geek out and pretend you're your favorite character from a game or anime for a while, around people who like the same things. I get to wear outrageous outfits I would never put on in a normal situation, it's great!

First off, I was a Hammer Brother for Halloween when I was 8, I was Mario when I was 7... ;D
I've been cosplaying for a few years now at a local anime con. It's just an absolute blast, it's always one of my favorite things I do all year. My most recent and by far popular costume which has become my main persona is none other than Link, of the Dark variety I should note...
It's just good times with good people. It's a bit of work, but past that, what ISN'T fun about dressing up and becoming one of your characters? Yeah, maybe it's a bit silly for us adults...but hey, growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional...
Sidenote: How the HELL does Link fight in those tights? GAWD are they uncomfortable on one's manparts... xD
