Some people might not like this feature, though. It certainly makes an in-game jukebox less effective, for one. So, what are your thoughts on sleep mode? Do you put your handheld to sleep often, or do you prefer to just shut your game off completely? And, is clamshelling a good thing, or would you rather the DS stay on when you close it?

I love sleep mode. Energy saving and lovely when someone interrupts your game.
And fortunately, Moonshell keeps playing my music, when I close it. So now I've ditched my mp3 player, and replaced it with my DS...
Fuck me, I love the DS!

I like putting my DS to sleep when I misjudge the length of my bus ride. I also like that the alarm still works even when you put the little guy to sleep. Tres convenient.

Clamshelling is most obviously good. For the jukebox features that get put into games and that go off when the DS is closed, I think it is a bug in the game software. The fact that Moonshell stays on even though the DS is clamshelled implies that sleep mode can be disabled programmatically. Hence, if game developers are half serious regarding the jukebox they put in their software, they should care enough to disable the default sleep mode when the jukebox is on and re-enable it when the user leaves the jukebox and resumes another play mode.

I love that DS feature. Especially when games like Hotel Dusk use it quite wisely to narrow the border between user and game. When I close the DS to literally turn a puzzle on its other side in the game, the game world and the real world come a bit closer in that moment.

Sleep mode made the difference between taking the DS with me and playing it wherever I go, and letting the GBA collect dust because sleep mode wasn't available in most games, meaning to resuming a game at the DMV or doctor's office I'd have to boot it up, bypass the 20-30 seconds of splash screens, and finally start the game.
I still wish someone came up with a way to patch GBA games to sleep when the DS lid was closed, because there were a lot of them I never got to play much.

Natural feature for a portable system, can't imagine playing one without it anymore.
Oh, and Advance Wars DS will keep playing music on its jukebox even when you put it in sleep mode.

Sleep mode rules. Battery life on the DS is excellent - such that sleep mode is all I need.
I do wish it recharged faster than it does - but that seem a small thing to worry about.

Sleep mode is one of the best features of the DS. If my hubby comes up to talk to me or ask a question, I just close it and can give him or anyone else my full attention. If I'm interrupted in any manner, just close it and come back later. And like someone else here said, it's super great for short trips and waiting rooms/lines.
I don't have any battery issues with either my DS phat or my Lite. The only time sleep mode bit me in the butt was when I put my DS phat in sleep mode while playing AC:WW and I'd not noticed that the battery was getting low. I went to take a shower and all that and came back to a dead DS. Of course when I fired AC back up there was Resetti, who I'd only seen once before, annoying the living daylights out of me for several minutes!!

I love it. Especially when I want to take a break from Animal Crossing WW and don't want to deal with saving or having to talk to Resetti when I want to play again.

Definitely love it. Perfect for games with long levels that you can't save in the middle of.

I had a feeling this question would be asked eventually.
Anyway, this is kind of creepy. Right now, to my right, my DS is on the computer desk in sleep mode. Sleep mode is one of my favorite features. I usually play my DS after I'm supposed to be sleeping, and when my parents look in on me, I shut the DS so my parents won't see the backlight shining through the sheets. Plus, when it's closed, my DS looks all shiny. (:

Sleep mode is too good, if it was removed I would miss it. Saves bundles of time when you need a quick break or have to put the game down for something.

I wonder if anyone has done any tests to see how long it can stay in sleep mode before the battery is drained
I love using sleep mode - but I'm always anxious to get back and reach a genuine save point in the game.
guess I'm just a worrier.

Sleep mode is awesome. I've left it sleep mode for several hours without hooking it up to the charger on my way out to work, and came home to find my DS still ready and waiting for me to open it up and continue playing.
