First, watch this awesome video. It's an awesome video, right? A YouTube user 007craft remade The Legend of Zelda, from the first screen through the first dungeon, in the Xbox Live Arcade version of N+. It's wonderfully bizarre to see the screens so faithfully rendered in a completely different gameplay style. Simple things like reaching doors at the top of the screen become acrobatic struggles.
Have you ever used one game to recreate another game or its elements? Maybe you've edited all of the textures in your Animal Crossing town, Drawn Mario to Life, or composed some game music in Mario Paint. When you get access to an in-game editor, is making references to other games the first thing you do?

In the stage editor in Brawl, my brother and I tried to make a stage based on the Koopa Clown Car. Later, I made a stage based on the part of Norfair in Super Metroid that has the entryway shaped like Ridley's head. My brother also made Godot his character in Drawn to Life, which I find kind of awesome.

On JSRF I made a graf of Super Sonic gliding through Green Hill Zone. I worked on it twenty minutes everyday for around two months.
It was relatively epic.

My roommate made Mario and Luigi in Fire Pro Wrestling 2 for the GBA (and again in Fire Pro R for the PS2).
Of course, they have fireballs. And Luigi has a wicked Plumber's Plunge (Frog Splash).

I've made the texture on my FFCC moogle to look like Phoenix Wrights suit. I'm working on getting the hair to look right at the minute. If only I could edit the model T_T.

The Final Fantasy XI mod community, which I used to be really involved in, has this funny tendency to recreate armor from Lineage II for FFXI... though I guess that's because L2 has prettier armor, and the textures are available.... But requests always come in for armor from other games, especially FFX-2.
