Since we first heard about it, Bleach: The Third Phantom has lived up to its name, with Sega offering little in the way of news or screens. The official site is now full of great-looking screens of the Bleach game that somehow is a sequel to, but is not itself a Treasure fighting game. In addition to the screens, which we have collected as a gallery, the website features short animations of the combat, which still looks pretty fighting-game-like despite being turn-based. If the animations aren't animated enough for you, the "System" area of the website features a large collection of Flash animations which illustrate the game in action. The Third Phantom is scheduled for a June 26th release in Japan, and we wouldn't be too surprised to see it follow its more action-oriented predecessors in localization.

On my radar. The second Bleach DS fighting game doesn't seem different enough from the first to make me want to buy it, so I'm hoping this gets localized eventually. It seems like a franchise that translates well to games, so I'm holding out hope for this to be good.

nah, Bleach doesn't really sit well with an RPG system, not as true to the show
Few enough Animes would make good RPGs, they usually don't include enough random baddies

I'll concede the point of Bleach not translating well to an RPG in particular; the fighting games really capture what the franchise is all about. It does, however, have a near-infinite supply of baddies in the form of Hollows. Although they're little more than cannon fodder and mostly used for crappy filler episodes in the show, they've been given a surprisingly wide range of design, and an RPG could do a lot of interesting things with this.
