If Brawl is to be believed, the game consists mainly of driving around in Landmasters, spouting badly voiced catchphrases.

You're only in an Arwing/other spacecraft the entire game. The voice acting is comparable to Animal Crossing, with garbled speech. You can actually add your own voice to the game, which is interesting.

Hey, the badly voiced catchphrases have given me some of the most fun times in Brawl. Seriously, go to sound test, it's fun to mix them up. My favorites are Falco's. "Hands off my PIECE OF CAKE." "Personally, I prefer the PIECE OF CAKE!"

I didn't know Leon was paraplegic
I liked this game, though, my only fault with it was the constant time pressure you were always under. Limited turns, limited time in matches

So, if I were, say, a fan of SF64, would this be worth getting, or has it strayed from that area too considerably?

At its core, the game is StarFox 64's "All-range mode" all the time, which is fun enough in itself, but the strategy elements keep you on your toes
If you liked All-range mode, then go for it, if not, stay away

I enjoyed the game. Not sure how it compares to other games in the series; I never really played SF on the SNES or N64, but I thought it worked well on the DS.
I got it for an even better deal, though...try searching through those "Game n Go" kits at Wal-Mart. SF Command is one of the games they include in the kit with a neoprene DS case, extra styluses, and screen cleaner...for $20. Kinda funny because when I bought it, the game alone was nearby for $30.

i had the game and also enjoyed playing it. there are a couple of different endings and a bunch of different missions to do, depending on your actions. i almost had all of 'em. i would recommend it. if you liked Starfox 64, you would like this game.

If you like Starfox, it's worth $20.
As mentioned before, it's all flying missions.
There are 9 different endings, which is cool, but you end up replaying a lot of the same missions over and over again. That, to me, is a pile of rubbish. I unlocked 4 endings, after that it just got to repetitive. Also, I thought the controls were really cool.

Game sucks and it pisses me off I blew $35 on a lie basically. It's starfox in part at the core mixed with a tactical rpg with limited turns pushing to an automatic fail. Combine this with randomly placed things + boss in a fog of war it's all a goddamnedable guess to find where you need to be. Compounding the problem is the action sequences where you're giving a crippled time limit where you essentially can't just focus on the target but all the annoyances to rack up precious seconds on the clock so you can make it out of the campaign.
Bad time limits + random fog of war + crap turn limit to a loss = epic failure format.
If Amazon's deal of the day is paying ME $20 I may consider it.

Randomly placed things? I haven't played SF:C in a long time, but I'm certain there wasn't anything random about it. And I'm not a big fan of time/turn limits in games, but I found that SF:C provided ample time to get things done.
The only complaint about SF:C is the inevitable hand cramps that come from extended play sessions, but I guess I can't really blame a game for being so good that it hurts.

That's funny. I found this game really easy. FoW is nothing, especially since you can clear away a good bit of it. Time constraints don't mattter at all if you're good enough, and online was fun when people actually were on. I think it's a good game, worth 20 bucks. And anyone who says "It's not like SF64!!!!" needs to STFU. If they just made SF64 for the DS, it would suck. This game does something different, and it works. Anybody who likes flight/strategy gaems would like this.

dont buy it, this game blows hard.
the first 20 minutes are spent reading (mashing a) the "story."
if you want to play starfox, go get the SNES original, or possibly even SF64.

Hah truth hurt on a couple people there. Like it or not it is true, and as the other one brought up I didn't even get into the hand crampy action of the forced control setup. Stylus play is fun, but don't force it...especially in a situation like that game.

WORTH IT! Believe me, I am a huge fan of the 64 version, and despite all the crap Starfox Command gets, it's still a great game.
I've played through all the endings and unlocked all the characters, so I know about the game. It's a little more open than SF64 in that you can fly around like "All Range Mode", with enemies flying everywhere. Think of the Katina / Independence Day level in Star Fox 64, the whole game is like that.
You are on a time limit, but reflecting shots nets you more time, so you have to become proficient at killing enemies quickly and also leaving enough alive so you can spin through their shots and get more time. Some people don't like it, but I find the time limit makes the game more exciting and ads some strategy.
If you're a fan of the 64 version, you owe it to yourself to check this game out if you haven't yet, ESPECIALLY for $20.

I'm a huge fan of SF1, 2(not released except in 'final beta' rom format, SF64, and even the good flying bits of the GC title too. This one I hated because exactly of the chincy junk with the time limits, though mostly it was the limited turns+fog of war on the map. The only reason I even had problems with the game was that damn map screen. The time limit dislike is just that a preference but manageable.
